In this week's new episode of Counting On, the Duggars decided to give a nice little lesson on the importance of courting.
Yep, sorry about it, friends, you'll have to wait at least another week to see Jinger Duggar lose her mind over Jeremy Vuolo. Again.
But while there wasn't a lot of action in the new episode, it wasn't completely without its merits.
We got to hear the Duggar men muse about that funny way the Duggars do relationships, and, in Josiah's case, at least, it was pretty darn interesting.
Josiah, in case you've been having trouble keeping up with all those 19 kids (and counting!), is the one who was courting a nice girl named Marjorie Jackson last year.
He was 18 at the time, and he said that he and Marjorie met a few years before when he was taking Spanish lessons at her house.
But little Duggar sparks first started flying shortly before their relationship began -- and isn't that always the way? -- when they were on a mission trip to El Salvador together and, as Josiah explained it, "she really caught my eye."
Unfortunately, those sparks fizzled out before they could get hitched, because after four months of courting, the couple split.
"Marjorie and I had a good time together," he later explained. "We were just trying to follow God's lead on everything. She didn't feel that it was the right timing then, so we called it quits for a bit."
But Josiah did hint that perhaps things weren't truly over with Marjorie, saying that "We have time to grow ... you never know."
Really, it sounds like these two just realized that they were still crazy young (he was 18, remember, and she was just 17) and that they wanted to wait a few more years before they settled down and started procreating.
And judging by what Josiah said this week, he just might be ready now to get to courtin' -- or he at least might be close to it.
"The older I get," he said, "the more I realize how young I am and how much more I have to mature in life. So yes, I'm interested in somebody, but as I get closer I'm like, 'Whoa, I've really got to work on some things.'"
And that's a mature outlook in itself, right?
"Every relationship is different," Josiah continued. "There are all kinds of different scenarios. People are raised differently. Some people don't know anything about courtship. But generally the idea is, hey, if you're really interested and you really want to do this right, you really want to guard her heart."
Pretty sweet, right? But don't worry, there's more!
"What I would do is I would go talk to the dad first and say 'Hey, I'm kind of interested in your daughter. Mind if I spend some time around your family?'"
A little old-fashioned, sure, but still kind of cute. And you know the Duggars are capable of way worse.
As for what Josiah imagines his future wife, he said that ideally, he'd like a girl who was not too shy but not too bold, who is organized, and who has a good sense of humor. He's still on the fence about blondes vs. brunettes.
Josiah sounds like a sweet kid, doesn't he? Hopefully he finds what he's looking for -- and hopefully he takes exactly zero notes from his biggest brother.
