On Sunday, Morgan Freeman’s step-granddaughter was murdered. In the wake of E’Dena Hines’ tragic death, many have been reminded of the old rumor that Freeman and Hines had an affair.
As a result, we have to ask, is it true? Did Freeman and Hines really partake in a scandalous affair six years ago?
In 2009, we reported that Morgan Freeman and E’Dena Hines were romantically involved. This came to the surface when Freeman was in the midst of divorcing his wife of 25 years, Myrna.
Though she was not a blood relative of the star, she was 45 years his junior. Many male stars prefer the company of much younger women. But considering Freeman raised Hines “since she was a little girl,” their alleged affair was unsettling.
However, what was the most disturbing about their relationship was that Freeman many have preyed on his step-granddaughter when she was just a teenager.
“Myrna said Edena told her that when she was a teenager, she and Morgan went to dinner at a friend’s house one evening,” insiders said. “Both had been drinking, and when they returned home, Morgan attempted to have sex with her.”
Hines and Freeman stopped just short of having intercourse,” the source stated.
The source also claimed that E’Dena told Myrna about the incident saying, “Edena explained to Myrna that she stopped Morgan from going any further.”
Freeman adamantly denied the affair. And his rep claimed the story wasn’t true.
Still, sources argued that the scandalous affair ruined Freeman’s marriage and his relationship with his (other) mistress Mary Joyce Hays.
Eventually Myrna confronted her husband about the affair, and Freeman promised to end the relationship. But the affair between Hines and Freeman secretly continued for many years, sources claim.
Hines often accompanied Freeman on the red carpet and “nobody thought anything of it, because she would be introduced as his ‘granddaughter.'”
After Freeman and his wife divorced, Hines was hoping to have a child with Freeman. She believed it would help him commit and be faithful to her, sources told Radar Online.
She even thought a baby might encourage him to marry her. “Becoming Mrs. Morgan Freeman has been Edena’s goal,” a family source disclosed.
It wasn’t until 2012 when Freeman started dating a Los Angeles accountant named Ellie that they finally ended their affair.
At the time, Hines said, “These stories about me and my grandfather are not only untrue, they are also hurtful to me and my family.”
Freeman also responded to the rumors: “The recent reports of any pending marriage or romantic relationship of me to anyone are defamatory fabrications from the tabloid media designed to sell papers.”
He added, “What is even more alarming is that these fabrications are now being picked up by the legitimate press as well.”
Tragically, Hines was stabbed to death in front of her Manhattan apartment building on Sunday. Hines’ boyfriend Lamar Davenport was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
Following Hines death, the 78-year-old actor released a statement saying, “the world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer.”
He continued, “Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.”
