It would take a major cynic to believe Caitlyn Jenner is not brave for having come out as a transgender woman.
And it would also take a major cynic not to have been moved by Caitlyn Jenner's ESPYs speech in front of a national audience on ABC last night.
But did Jenner deserve the Arthur Ashe Courage Award? When compared to some other courageous individuals from the world of sports?
That's a different question, and it's one producer/director Peter Berg has an easy answer to: NO!
The man behind the Friday Night Lights television series posted the above meme online in light of Jenner's victory and speech, comparing the reality star to army veteran Gregory D. Gadson, who played football at West Point.
"One man traded 2 legs for the freedom of the other to trade 2 balls for 2 boobs," the image reads.
"Guess which man made the cover of Vanity Fair, was praised for his courage by President Obama and is to be honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award by ESPN?"
Berg is not the only prominent voice to speak out against Jenner's ESPY.
Veteran sports journalist Bob Costas has said he very much respects Caitlyn's decision... but also labeled ESPN's choice to give her this award as an example of "exploitation" for ratings.
