Earlier today, TLC finally brought the axe down and canceled 19 Kids and Counting in the aftermath of the Josh Duggar sex scandal.
It's undoubtedly a crushing blow for a family whose star power had been on the rise for a decade, and up until just a few months ago.
The Duggar family, however, chooses to see it as a blessing. They write:
"With God's grace and help Josh, our daughters and our entire family overcame a terrible situation, found healing and a way forward."
"We are so pleased with the wonderful adults they have all become."
"It is our prayer that the painful situation our family went through many years ago can point people toward faith in God and help others."
Others, they say, have leaned on faith to navigate their way "through similar dark situations to find help, hope and healing, as well."
Without elaborating, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar hinted that they will work with TLC on one last 19 Kids and Counting special:
"We look forward to working with TLC on this upcoming special documentary and hope that it is an encouragement to many."
Multiple media reports indicate that TLC plans to work with child protection organizations to raise awareness about child sexual abuse.
"We know who holds the future and are confident that He will work all things together for good," the Duggars' statement concluded.
"We look forward to unfolding the future with peace and joy."
The Duggars expressed gratitude to the TLC film crew and fans who supported them as they reflect on the road that led them here:
"You have deeply touched our hearts and encouraged us, during this time. We appreciate the love, support, prayers and kindness."
"Years ago, when we were asked to film our first one hour documentary about the logistics of raising 14 children," Jim Bob recalls.
"We felt that it was an opportunity to share with the world that children are a blessing and a gift from God. We love each of you."
The family's fall from grace was dramatic and abrupt.
After In Touch broke the story that Josh Duggar molested his sisters as a teen, the show was pulled from the airwaves abruptly.
More details emerged and accounts of how Jim Bob and Michelle covered up the tragic situation snowballed into a PR nightmare.
Despite their attempts at damage control and to slowly return to their lives, public opinion did not turn around as TLC had hoped.
As a result, R.I.P. 19 Kids and Counting (2008-2015).
