Before the Josh Duggar molestation scandal came to light, 19 Kids and Counting fans were already curious, even worried, about Jana Duggar.

Now, speculation regarding the eldest Duggar daughter has only intensified in light of shocking reports that Josh sexually abused his sisters.

Josh Duggar is the first-born of Jim Bob and Michelle’s 19 children (and counting). Twins John-David and Jana Duggar, now 25, came next.

Unlike Jill and Jessa Duggar, who recently married and got pregnant, Jana is still single and living at home with her mom, dad and siblings.

Jessa and Jill have given interviews with the media – pre- and post-scandal – and talked freely about their daily lives on social media pages.

Each has become a celebrity in her own right.

Not Jana, an enigma dubbed “Cinderella Duggar” by fans of 19 Kids for how she toils away, her inner and outer beauty often overlooked.

Jim Bob and Michelle frequently speak of their “buddy system” wherein an older sibling is tasked to care for and guide a younger sibling.

Jana appears to be everyone’s “buddy,” however. When there’s chaperoning or housework to be done, she seems to be the one doing it.

Fans have wondered if Jana Duggar quitting 19 Kids and Counting is either inevitable, or (ironically) near-impossible for similar reasons.

Beautiful, smart, talented, kind and patient, how could she not want to pursue college or find work somewhere other than her folks’ house?

However, sweet Jana has never left home, and given what we now know, it’s easy to reexamine her protective, parental nature is rooted.

Does it have anything to do with the Josh Duggar molestation scandal? Was she herself a victim, and emotionally scarred as a result?

Sources say Jana has recently “looked depressed and shut down” from shouldering the burden of “needing to protect her littlest siblings.”

Besides Jill and Jessa, it’s unclear which Duggar sisters were victims of Josh’s not-so-mild touching, but there are only so many options.

It wouldn’t be at all surprising if these traumatic events shaped who Jana is, and helped make her the younger children’s de facto guardian.

We just hope she finds the strength within herself to break free from the shackles of this environment before many more years pass her by.

Looking at you too, Jinger Duggar. Clock’s tickin’.
