Gypsy Rose Blancharde is charged with murder after her mom, Clauddinnea "Dee Dee" Blancharde, was found dead in their Springfield, Mo., home.
She was 48 years old. Gypsy, 23, was arrested in Big Bend, Wisconsin, with Nicholas Paul Godejohn, 26. There is much more to this, too ...
Authorities told the Springfield News-Leader that Dee Dee was found "deceased of a violent nature," and social media may offer a grisly clue.
Friends became worried after an anonymous user posted a disturbing status update on a Facebook account shared by Gypsy and Dee Dee.
"That bitch is dead!" read the post Sunday.
"We utilize social media not only to get crime tips but people do post things about their crimes," Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott said.
"We've used it before but not to the extent of a homicide. This is the first time we've ever seen something like this posted," Arnott acknowledged.
"And it's directly linked back to the killer."
Alleged killer. And it gets more bizarre. Neighbors told police that Gypsy has leukemia and muscular dystrophy, using a wheelchair.
"But in fact she can walk" without assistance, Arnott tells People. "So there's a lot of things with this case that are very interesting."
"We really don't know the true background of this family. This is a tragic, tragic event surrounded by mystery and public deception."
The family claims that they were displaced by Hurricane Katrina and moved to the Habitat for Humanity-built home in Missouri.
Arnott said that cannot be confirmed at this point in time, adding that authorities aren't even sure of Gypsy Rose's true age either.
The Blanchardes allegedly received financial donations under false pretenses through GoFundMe pages that are now deactivated.
Police are still learning about the link between fraud allegations pertaining to those accounts and Gypsy's alleged health issues.
In any case, both Gypsy and Godejohn have been charged with first-degree murder and are being held on $1 million bond.
