When fans first learned that Patrick Dempsey would be leaving Grey's Anatomy, they wanted to know why.
The death of McDreamy demands an explanation, dammit, and a simple "it's a TV show, chill" just won't suffice.
Rumors that Dempsey was fired weren't all that surprising, as Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes has previously demonstrated a George R.R. Martin-like willingness to dispatch fan favorites on a whim.
What is surprising, however, is the new claim that Dempsey's firing was related to his divorce from Jillian Fink earlier this year.
A production insider tells Radar Online that Dempsey was canned after he was caught cheating on his wife of 16 years with a female employee of the crew member.
“Patrick had an inappropriate relationship with a young woman who worked on the set,” the source claims. “[Costar] Ellen Pompeo found out and was angry because she’s close friends with Jillian, so of course, she told her.”
The insider says Rhimes "has no patience for that kind of behavior” and immediately gave Dempsey the axe.
And with that, the Legend of McDreamy suffers yet another damaging blow. Will this information have any effect on the millions of female fans who still worship at the altar of the departed doc? We doubt it.
