Earlier this year, we reported that Britney Spears' ex-boyfriend John Sundahl was killed in Afghanistan, a tragic end for an influential figure in her life.
Well, a source now tells THG exclusively that these widespread reports are inaccurate, and that Sundahl is actually, and miraculously, alive ...
Britney Spears, now 33, dated Sundahl in 2007, after they met at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in L.A. following her string of meltdowns.

Sundahl helping Britney through her dark times is something many fans have subsequently forgotten, as she climbed her way back to the top.
Britney never did, though, and was said to have taken the news of John Sundahl's passing particularly hard ... believing that it was in fact true.

Multiple reports claimed Sundahl was killed by the Taliban in Afghanistan after he was shot down flying a helicopter over the war-torn land.
John, 44, was working as a private contractor ferrying officials across the volatile country, and was supposedly killed outside Kabul.
His brother Karl Sundahl was quoted by the Mirror (UK) saying that John's family had been told of his death by the U.S. State Department.
John's neighbor begs to differ.
"I am his neighbor and long time friend and [while] he did get badly injured and spent two months in the hospital he is very alive," he tells THG.
"He helicopter was shot down, but thanks to the Marine rescue team they saved him. His poor family keeps seeing these stories and thinking the worst."
We hope this is true and hope to obtain official confirmation from John that he has survived and made a full recovery. Story developing ...
