George Zimmerman, the man best known for being acquitted in the murder of Trayvon Martin in 2013, has suffered a minor wound after being shot in Lake Mary, Florida just moments ago.
Few details are known at this time, but witnesses say Zimmerman left the scene under his own power and received immediate medical attention.
“He walked normally into the ambulance, so he wasn’t being helped or nothing,” said witness Ricardo Berrare.
Since being acquitted nearly two years ago, Zimmerman has made headlines after being involved in a number of violent incidents.
In January, Zimmerman was arrested for domestic violence when his girlfriend called police and claimed that he had thrown a wine bottle at her. She later recanted her allegation, and no charges were filed.
Prior to that incident, Zimmerman allegedly threatened to kill a man in a bizarre road rage incident.
Members of a local news crew claim to have seen a bullet hole in the passenger side of the car that Zimmerman was riding in before today's shooting.
It is not known if he was in the car at the time that he was struck.
We will have new information on this story as more details become available.
