Earlier this week, Zayn Malik quit the current One Direction tour under mysterious circumstances.
Reps for Malik claimed that he was suffering from stress. Tabloids claimed that the heartthrob hoped to avoid the Southeast Asian leg of the tour as the result of the region's strict drug laws. (Zayn and Louis Tomlinson were filmed smoking pot while on tour last year.)
But it's beginning to look more and more as though Malik returned to the UK in an effort to save his ailing relationship with fiancee Perrie Edwards.
Perrie and Zayn got engaged in 2013, and Directioners have enjoyed living vicariously through the Little Mix singer for years now.
Many were quick to turn on Malik when photos that allegedly showed him getting friendly with a female fan began to make the rounds on social media this week.
In light of that controversy, it's not hard to imagine that Zayn's "stress" might be due in part to his relationship troubles.
Add to that the fact that Perrie was reportedly spotted leaving the home she shares with Malik while carrying an overnight bag late last night, and it begins to look like Zayn's efforts to patch things up may have come too late.
A UK tabloid quotes Perrie as telling Zayn, "Get home if you want to sort this mess out, or we're done."
For his part, Malik has been taking to Twitter to blast the "jealous f--ks" that he blames for sabotaging his relationship.
Naturally, neither half of Zarrie has spoken with the press about the couple's alleged problems.
