Jennette McCurdy on Ariana Grande Feud: We Butted Heads ... Like Sisters

by at .

Jennette McCurdy doesn't deny that she and former co-star Ariana Grande didn't always see eye to eye, but she says it wasn't a real case of bad blood.

The Sam & Cat tandem's reportedly contentious relationship got a lot of attention given the popular Nickelodeon series’ abrupt cancelation last year.

Oh, and those racy Jennette McCurdy photos that leaked. Those snaps also earned her plenty of headlines ... for reasons that were sort of related.

In any event, McCurdy insists that while she and Ariana argued (and argued with execs, allegedly over compensation), it wasn't anything unusual.

"Things kind of got misconstrued. I just feel that, you know Ariana and I were and are extremely close and very like-minded in a lot of different ways."

"Then, sorta as the show dissolved, everybody wanted to find some sort of hidden meaning in our relationship," McCurdy told E! News in an interview.

"Some [people] like drama. I think we butted heads at times but in a very sisterly way. She knows me so well and I know her so well. I think it was unfortunate."

Jennette declined to elaborate on what she specifically butted heads with Ariana - who has gone on to reach the pop music stratosphere - over.

McCurdy said the long hours they worked contributed to some tension, if not a full-scale Ariana Grande feud, as would be the case for any co-workers.

"There is certainly like a friend dynamic but then once you're around that person for like 16 hours a day. you are around these people constantly."

"It's just natural that you're gonna have ups and downs," she added, but she says that even with Sam & Cat canceled, the ups outnumbered the latter.

"You bond so much and you're so close that you can't go through that experience and ... I can't imagine a world where you would not come out extreme friends."

"I mean I have bonds with both [her other former co-star] Miranda Cosgrove and Ariana that are impenetrable," McCurdy said, and she's sticking to it.
