Iggy Azalea has always had her problems with social media.
Iggy's feuds with Azealia Banks, Snoop Dogg, and a slew of other artists, have made for some compelling entertainment, but they've also taken a heavy toll on the Aussie rapper.
Now, it looks as though non-famous haters have finally pushed Iggy over the edge, as she tweeted last night that she'll be taking an indefinite hiatus from the world of social media following some unkind comments about her body.
"The Internet is the ugliest reflection of mankind there is," Iggy wrote. "Just got back from a great vacation, came online and saw apparently it's shocking and unheard of to be a woman and have cellulite."
"I want to let my fans know I am taking some time away from social media. I need to be happy and it is too negative and draining..."
"My management will treat/run my accounts from today onwards with updates, etc. unless any message is signed -IA."
It's a bold decision, and one that we expect you'll see more celebs making in the future, but sometimes we can't help but feel that Iggy would get the respect she's looking for if she acted more like a rapper and less like a wounded soul.
Can you imagine if all the hip hop greats walked away from their harshest critics so that they could "be happy?" We'd have no Biggie vs. Tupac! Jay Z vs. Nas! Eminem vs. his mom!
Look, no one deserves the amount of hate that Iggy gets online, but trash-talk from armies of random trolls is the new normal for anyone who lives even a semi-public life.
It's fine if Iggy wants to step away for a while, but we hope at some point she'll take out her frustrations in song form.
Otherwise, we might have to reconsider those rumors that T.I. writes Iggy's raps. See, Iggy? This is the kid of stuff you can't respond to now that you're offline!
