Amy Duggar, the niece of 19 Kids and Counting stars Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, is confirming a tabloid report that she was born out of wedlock.
With more babies in the United States born out of wedlock than ever before, it's not exactly big news. Amy's parents are now married, even.
Still, it's not something you'd expect from her famous family.
Hence the "Amy Duggar born out of wedlock" headlines last week from publications looking to ignite the latest Duggar scandal however they can.
She's owning it, in any case, writing on her Instagram:
"The tabloids are telling the truth. My mom and dad did have me out of wedlock. Just because we are Christians doesn't make us perfect, it just makes us forgiven."
"Just because I share the Duggar name doesn't mean my life is perfect! God knew my uncle would have a hit show and that somehow I would be a part of it."
The 28-year-old aspiring country singer and daughter of Deanna Duggar and Terry Jordan went on to say that she's just happy to be here. Literally.
"I'm extremely grateful to my mom for choosing to give me life. I'm sure she was scared, young, ridiculed, and felt ashamed," Duggar added.
"God's grace covered it though! She's so beautiful inside and out. I'm also grateful that I have such an awesome relationship with my dad!"
"Seriously he's the greatest!" Amy Duggar gushed about her father.
"Jesus, thank you for restoring hearts, relationships and families."
"No matter what you have done, don't think your a second you're alone in this world. Jesus died so that you may be free! John 3:16 #prolife."
Amy’s parents didn’t get hitched until 2006 after many years of dating.
While Amy seems very close to Jordan, it's not clear if he is her biological father; neither Duggar nor Jordan have confirmed or denied that he is.
It is also not clear why this became such a huge story, as her mother already addressed the issue on a 2009 episode of the TLC reality show.
If you watch 19 Kids and Counting online regularly, this is not news.
Even Jim Bob Duggar, whose family has shunned relatives such as Susanna Keller, has not let this negatively impact his relationship with this sister.
"We enjoy getting together every week," he said.
At least in the case of Amy, the Duggars' pro-life views appear to have trumped any issues they have with children born to unmarried parents.
