The Duggar family and its devoutly conservative Christian beliefs influence how they live day in and day out, and oftentimes this has resulted in polarizing divides.
If their beliefs don't align, they are not opposed to shunning their own kin.
Just ask Susanna Keller, the younger sister of Josh Duggar's wife Anna Duggar (nee Keller), who gave birth to her first child two years ago ... out of wedlock.
Jill Duggar, a practicing midwife, wanted to help Susanna through the birth, but parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar wouldn’t allow it due to the circumstances.
“Jill was very excited to assist Susanna through the birth,” a source says.
“Michelle and Jim Bob, however, wouldn’t let her participate [in the birth]. They thought Jill shouldn’t be exposed to an unmarried mother in that condition.”
As fans know, what Michelle and Jim Bob say goes in that household.
Susanna's sister Anna is now pregnant with her fourth child, and basically complicit in her in-laws' decision to shun her, even if the two remain close.
Jill, 23, is now expecting her first child with husband Derick Dillard.
Previously close relative Susanna was essentially blackballed by the family when she got pregnant with her daughter Noelle out of wedlock in 2012.
If you watch 19 Kids and Counting online, you may remember seeing her briefly on it. Don't expect to again, as they refuse to even say her name on TV.
To say that relations are a bit icy these days wold be an understatement.
When Susanna ran into the family at an event in Texas last year, they were cordial, but appalled at the young mom letting her daughter, now nearly 2, dance.
The family considers dancing (and non-Christian music) “too sensual."
Duggar family members have come under fire recently for deleting LGBT fan photos from their Facebook page and comparing abortion to the Holocaust.
As their popularity grows, so do the scandals, it seems ...
