Leah Messer could lose custody of her twin girls to Corey Simms, and in this new Teen Mom 2 sneak peek, she struggles to comes to grips with that reality.
The maligned mother of three, 22, breaks down while discussing her custody battle with her ex-husband in this clip from Wednesday's all new episode.
“It shocked me,” Leah tells her stepfather Lee about Corey Simms filing for full custody of 4-year-old Ali and Aleeah, following a series of disputes.
At this moment, Messer and second husband, Jeremy Calvert, 25, have primary custody of the girls, along with their own daughter, who is younger.
Lee, referring to Simms’ reluctance for Ali, who was diagnosed with a rare form of muscular dystrophy last year, to depend on a wheelchair, asks her:
“Why would you give custody to a parent who is in denial when it comes to Ali’s medical condition, who is not wanting to cooperate with fulfilling her needs?”
Is that a rhetorical question, Lee?
After her stepdad mentions Leah’s dedication to Ali’s health over the years, the struggling young mother of three can't help but doubt her ex’s motives.
“If I was such a bad mom, why didn’t he do it before?” Messer-Calvert asks of Simms, who has since gotten remarried himself, to Miranda Patterson.
“The worst outcome would probably be that he would get full custody, and I don’t know how I would deal with that ... I can’t imagine not being the one taking care of her.”
“When is it going to be over?”
Perhaps it's not surprising that for this reason, friends fear that Leah is hooked on prescription drugs to escape the pain - mentally more than physically.
What do you think Corey's true goal is in challenging Leah? The little girl's best interest, preserving his own rights, or changing the couple's child support situation?
