Ed Sheeran is basically the male Taylor Swift, in that his songs are heavily biographical and fans love to pick apart the lyrics to figure out which ex or celebrity feud he's singing about.
It wasn't a difficult task with Sheeran's song "Don't," particularly with comments that Ed made in a recent interview with Howard Stern that basically confirmed the most popular fan theory.
"Don't" is about an ex of Ed's cheating on him with one of his close friends. Sheeran briefly dated Ellie Goulding last year and after they broke up, she had a fling with One Direction singer Niall Horan.
Ed is (or was) friends with the guys from 1D, so many fans assumed that "Don't" is about the Ed-Ellie-Niall situation. And then Ed basically confirmed it yesterday:
Asked by Stern if the song was about Niall, Sheeran replied, "I think if you add any fuel to any fire…I didn’t really come out of that situation upset."
"I just thought it was a bit disrespectful. I got over it as soon as the song was done and the song happened pretty soon after."
It was basically Ed's way of saying yes without saying yes. But Stern persisted anyway, asking, "So it was that guy in One Direction, right?"
To which Ed answered, "Well, it depends which one you're talking about."
So, yes. First we had Taylor Swift vs. Katy Perry and now it looks like though we've got another pop star feud on our hands.
For the record, rumor has it that Niall also dated Selena Gomez. He should probably cool it with going after other dudes' girlfriends before Sheeran and Bieber team up to dole out the wussiest beat down in history.
