A 27-year-old high school teacher in Virginia has been arrested for sexting a former student after his parents found nude pictures of her on his phone.
Cara Alexander, an English teacher at Woodside H.S. in Newport News, was charged with several offenses, including contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The 17-year-old student told his parents that he is also in a relationship with Cara Alexander, a full-time ninth-grade teacher at the school since 2010.
While the teenager was previously her student, he currently attends a different school, a Newport News Public Schools spokeswoman told The Virginian-Pilot.
The district plans to ask the state to revoke Alexander’s teaching license.
Some of the parents of Alexander’s students, meanwhile, said they’re stunned by the allegations against a young woman liked by adults and students.
Parent Anthony Bailey said that his teenage son (not the victim) recalled Alexander as “a very nice teacher and … he had a good time in her class.”
“It is very disappointing,” Bailey added of the surprising arrest report.
Alexander was jailed in Newport News Sunday with no bond set.
It’s not clear what type of sentence she’ll face when this is plea bargained, as it will be in all likelihood, but she may want to consider a career change.
Actually, she may not have a choice in the matter.
