Barbara Walters Retirement: Coming in 2014?

Barbara Walters will retire from the world of journalism next year, Deadline reports, confirming that the iconic reporter will hang up her microphone in May of 2014.

The announcement will reportedly come long before that, as ABC will set Walters up with many sendoffs and retrospectives before the big day arrives.

Barbara Walters Waves

Walters became the first female to co-host a news program when she got behind the Today desk in 1974.

She was then the first co-anchor of a network evening news broadcast when she joined ABC Evening News in 1976 and she proceeded to anchor 20/20 for two decades.

Walters is now best known for her role on The View, which is set to undergo its own changes in the near future.
