Paula Deen is an admitted food fanatic.

The habit has unfortunately stuck this famous chef with Type 2 Diabetes, while also landing her in hot water for pushing the sort of unhealthy food items that result in this disease.

But the chef has now shed 36 pounds and she tells Woman’s Day the key is “moderation” in her diet. We also assume she has stopped making that Paula Deen pecan squares recipe.

“I just needed to learn to eat a normal portion size and not overindulge,” the star tells the magazine.

Her life goals: “I want to be here for my grandchildren. I think about them every day. My daddy was dead at 40. My mother was dead at 44. And look – I’m 65 and I’m still here! Go, 65! Waking up every morning is very exciting for me, to see what the day is going to bring.”

Her anti-fat-free stance: “In my refrigerator, there’s no light mayonnaise. I’d rather eat less of the real thing and have it taste really good than have diet stuff that tastes awful.”

On pacing oneself at the table: “Putting my fork down and having a conversation has been a huge help. Because it takes 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that you’re full.”
