Kathy Bates, an Oscar winner for the 1991 film Misery and multiple-time Emmy nominee, revealed today that she was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks ago and recently underwent a double mastectomy in her battle against the disease.

“Luckily, I don’t have to undergo radiation or chemo,” Bates said in a statement. “My family call me Kat because I always land on my feet and thankfully this is no exception… My doctors have assured me I’m going to be around for a long time. I’m looking forward to getting back to work doing what I love to do.”

Bates was also diagnosed with ovarian cancer nine years ago.
