There were no losers on the finale of The Glee Project last night.

Following an offseason in which numerous cast members were supposedly fired, only for creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck to scramble and explain that no one was actually fired, this Lifetime reality competition took a different tact:

Everyone was hired!

Samuel Larsen and Damian McGinty officially took home the top prizes and will appear on seven episodes of Glee next season, but Lindsay Pearce and Alex Newell  didn’t exactly fare poorly themselves: they’ll show up on two installments of the Fox hit.

Following finale renditions by all of “Don’t Stop Believing” and “Raise Your Glass,” along with individual performances, why did Murphy arrive at this decision?

It’s not about “any of [the contestants’] individual talents,” he said. “It’s about the needs of the show.”

Glee returns for season three on September 20.
