As previously detailed, a large number of celebrities have come out in favor of the Supreme Court’s ruling that gay marriage is now legal in all 50 states.
But it’s the opinion of one powerful celebrity that we’re focused on here: That of President Barack Obama.
"Our nation was founded on a bedrock principle: That we are all created equal," Obama says here in a speech from The Rose Garden.
"The project of each generation is to breach the meaning of those founding words with the realities of changing times, a never-ending quest to ensure those words ring true for every single American.
"Progress on this journey often comes in small increments. Sometimes two steps forward, one step back, propelled by the persistent effort of dedicated citizens.
"And then sometimes there’s days like this, when that slow, steady effort is rewards with justice that arrives like a thunderbolt."
The President said these words mere hours after the Supreme Court voted (by a 5-4 margin) to legal gay marriage around the country.
"This ruling is a victory for America," POTUS added. "This decision affirms what America already knew in its hearts: When all Americans are treated equal, we are all more free."
