The recent church shooting in Charleston, SC that left nine dead is the sort of unimaginable tragedy that even the most accomplished orators can never make sense of.
So rather than attempt to imagine what motivates a monster like Dylann Roof to take the lives of men and women who had gathered to lift one another’s spirits, it’s better to simply honor those who passed for the way they lived, not the horrific fashion in which they died.
It’s for that reason that when President Obama delivered his eulogy at the funeral for Rev. Clementa Pinckney today, he joined the beloved preacher’s loved ones in mourning, rather than attempting to assuage their grief.
Obama’s heartwarming tribute to a man who has been described as the spiritual heir to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was followed by a stirring rendition of "Amazing Grace."
Watch the President lead a chorus of the bereaved in the video above.
