Now initially I thought people were going overboard about this commercial. If you're that bent out of shape about black folks eating chicken, here's a thought: DON'T EAT IT. (But that's my eight-year vegetarian experience talking.) However, I just watched the commercial. My gawd, I'm not offended by the chicken. The commercial is just beyond stupid. Why is there a stage in Burger King?
of time were given a piece of land and set free. America got it wrong, but that doesn't mean black people have a reason to be mad at every white person in the country. The area I live in, there are a lot of gangs, drugs and shoplifting perpetrated 80% by black people. Does that mean I have a right to hate all the black people who steal from my wife's store? NO. Everyone has a right to free speech and the right to stereotype groups of people who repeatedly do the same things over and over. Someone has to break the cycle
This is absurd. Black people aren't allowed to talk about chicken anymore? I'm black and I love fried chicken, so now I'm prevented to being hired to sing about my love of chicken in a commercial, because that would be "racist"? And the commercial just isn't that good, as was previously mentioned. I grew up in the South and, I'm sorry to the white liberals who feel the need to be overly PC about everything, but a lot of black people love their fried chicken. It's fact.
were able to create these age old stereotypes of black people that we know and love today. So before you go on to say that we "hate" take a look at hundreds of years of inequality and murder. Your ignorance is astounding, as is your grasp on history and facts. and you can't take benefits from the government if you are "part" native american...u have to be registered with a tribe. As for the commercial. Im not offended...its just a bad commercial.
Stereotypes exist for a reason... People have nothing to complain about. Freedom of speech is free for all, not just black people or Asians or Europeans or Native Americans. The natives got MUCH worse treatment than black slaves did. They were killed off and their land taken, at least slaves got houses and food. And of course now the Natives all do whatever they want and run casinos making millions. I'm part Cherokee, I don't take benefits from the govnmt because why should I? Just because your dead relatives were massacred or beaten and raped doesn't give you the right to hate those peoples' descendents.
I finally had seen the commerical. Whats all the ruccaks. I was expecting something else. I don't see racist things. Mary eat the chicken and BK money and enjoy. Everybody else can back off. 4real.
This is the new version of "Aunt Jemama" ( correct the spelling) commercials. Do you think they would show the Jonas brothers singing this way about chicken.
I don't see how that commercial is racist. Its just a bad commercial. I think Mary J and BK were embarassed by how poorly it came off and they pulled it.
I am a Black woman and I see nothing wrong with this commercial. I am not a big fan Of Mary J, only because I am not a fan of secular music, however I see no reason for an apology nor the comercial pulled. I agree, time is out for many Black/White issues because they are not real issues. Looking at it from another spectrum, had a White woman done the commercial and Mary J was skipped over, that would have been an unfounded issue also. Don't get me wrong, there are some (a lot of)Black/White issues that need to be addressed, but it will be benificial to all of us if we were to pick our battles wisely and don't sweat the small stuff!
Nothing wrong with this commercial, I love her singing! The Wrap looks really good too... Nothing racial about this, she didn't know she was singing about a chicken wrap? WTF After all this crap I hope they didn't pay her! Burger King is buying into the ridiculousness by pulling the commercial... Sad Sad use of the Race Card!
