It’s been two months since we first learned that Avril Lavigne has been diagnosed with Lyme disease.

The 30-year-old singer has mostly kept quiet about the challenges of fighting the crippling illness, but she sat down with Good Morning America today for an emotional interview in which she discussed the details of her condition for the first time.

In the clip above, Lavigne tearfully opens up about the frustrations of being misdiagnosed with depression and chronic fatigue syndrome.

“This is what they do to a lot of people who have Lyme disease," Lavigne says. "They don’t have an answer for them, so they tell them, like, ‘You’re crazy.’"

Lavigne says she’s slowly improving, and has sought emotional support from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Foster who is also a Lyme disease patient.
