We all knew Rosie O'Donnell's return to The View would result in some major drama, but we figured she would direct most of her rage at resident right-winger Elisabeth Hasselbeck  Nicolle Wallace.

But according to witnesses at a recent taping, Rosie's got it in for Whoopi Goldberg, who she apparently feels has gotten a big head since taking over for Barbra Walters as moderator, following Walters' retirement  earlier this year.

New View Hosts

The story goes that Rosie was holding court on the topic of using physical punishments such as spanking on children.

O'Donnell reportedly refuses to wear an ear piece during taping, so she's the last to know when a commercial break is coming up. Goldberg interrupted her rant to go to commercial and that's when Rosie lost it:

Ready for a new View?

In anticipation of Monday's season premiere, ABC has unveiled the first official photo of Whoopi Goldberg and her three new co-hosts: Rosie O'Donnell, Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace.

The former, of course, has already served as a panelist for a season, while Perez (an actress) and Wallace (a political analyst and former Director of Communications at the White House) will take over for Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy.

New View Hosts

In a new interview with Variety, O'Donnell explained how producers whittled down a field of potential hosts to Shepherd and McCarthy.

Recently, we learned that Sarah Palin is close to joining The View. Naturally, Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O'Donnell have responded to this news in the only logical fashion:

They're desperately auditioning other options and getting really, really pissed off all the time.

Yesterday, for example, the cast sat down with conservative pundit and sexy teacher from an '80s music video, S.E. Cupp.

The View Cast

Cupp fills that "hot right winger" role that Republicans were hoping Palin would take on, until they realized she's both not that hot, and not smart enough to represent their party...or any party, for that matter.

You wouldn't even want her advertising your kegger.

Anyway, S.E. is guest hosting The View this week, and she did some un-televised trial runs to see how well she fit with the rest of the cast, and the answer is not well.

So not well, in fact, that she somehow caused Whoopi to go off on Barbara Walters:

Whoopi Goldberg has had enough of the rumors, the gossip and the cat-fighting.

With The View seemingly at the center of the television world this week - Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd are out! Rosie O'Donnell is returning! Elisabeth Hasselback is angry! - Goldberg took a few moments during yesterday's show to let her feelings be known.

In quite an entertaining and only semi-sensical manner.

"There’s a lot of speculation about a lot of stuff going on here,” Goldberg said. “I will do my best to respect the audience, to make sure that we bring you The View that Barbara Walters wanted you to have, which is women talking about issues."

She then grew a bit irate and added: "We are not little kids. We are grown-ass women... I’m not a cat. I’m a human being. I’m a girl with a fist!"

NOTE: Whoopi's rant took place before Rosie's return was made official by ABC.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck of The View had some harsh words for Chris Brown's vulgar Twitter rant against Jenny Johnson, likening his comments to "verbal rape."

"I think it's disgusting, first of all," she said. "But also, it seems like verbal rape to me."

"And I think at some point there's gotta be a point where Twitter should ban anyone who writes anything forever on there and you should identify yourself."

Co-hosts Sherri Shepherd and Whoopi Goldberg, while acknowledging that Brown's comments were extreme, emphasized that Jenny Johnson was also to blame.

Rielle Hunter was eviscerated on The View yesterday as the gabfest panel, in particular Whoopi Goldberg, went nuclear on John Edwards' mistress.

"In your book, you trash a dead lady," Goldberg stated, referring to Rielle Hunter's new tell-all book, in which she bashes Elizabeth Edwards often.

"That was kind of crappy."

Regarding What Really Happened: John Edwards, Our Daughter and Me, the author responded, "I wrote to tell the truth. I was truthful about their dynamic."

In the interview, Hunter acknowledged that despite recent photos of the happy family on a North Carolina beach, she broke up with John Edwards.

Asked if the split was caused by her memoir, Rielle dodged. "I don't want to hide any more," she said. "It's hard under media scrutiny, it takes a toll."

The mother of Edwards' love child spent a good part of the interview defending herself. "I'm not a mistress, I'm a mom," Rielle Hunter insisted.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck wasn't buying it: "Truth be told, you were a mistress."

Whoopi Goldberg farted on The View hardcore today.

Seriously, there's breaking wind and there is cutting ass.

This is the latter. It was a loud one, and there's no hiding it. To her credit, Whoopi didn't even try after the fart interrupted her interview with Homeland star Claire Danes, saying, "Excuse me, I think I just blew a little frog outta there!"

Seriously:

A rep for ABC said that Whoopi Goldberg farting on The View (not for the first time, either) "was in good fun ... secretly we hoped it would get posted on YouToot."

Gotta give them credit for honestly. And that play on words.

Every now and then, The View panelists actually engage in an interesting discussion.

Such was the case when the topic of Tracy Morgan, his recent anti-gay rant on stage and subsequent apology came up this week on the talk show.

Whoopi Goldberg didn't defend Morgan's specific outburst, but did speak from experience as a comedian when she said this stuff just happens occasionally on stage: "Sometimes we step in it and it’s bad, and this is one of those times... when a comic has gone over the line and realized it. Not just because people told him, but because he realized it."

Sherri Shepherd, who recurs opposite Morgan on 30 Rock as his character's wife, said a working actor must also represent his show at all times.

And Elisabeth Hasselbeck actually chimed in with a good question: Do the standards for a comedian change in this Internet age, when he/she must be aware that his/her audience expands beyond those in the audience? Should it?

There's really no other way to say this: Whoopi Goldberg let one rip on The View this week.

Asked by guest Dr. Oz if there was a history of farting on the show, the host wasn't shy about her take on this habit: "There is more room out than in!" Whoopi exclaimed, as Barbara Walters looked on, mortified.

Goldberg then appeared to demonstrate her penchant for passing gas right there on the spot; once again, to the horror of Walters...

We knew he loved fame, money, himself, and bloviating about everything under the sun. But who knew Donald Trump was a complete buffoon?

Swaggering onto The View today to promote The Celebrity Apprentice, Trump, who's pondering a White House run, also brought up a political issue.

One that landed him in hot water with Whoopi Goldberg.

Of President Obama, who he thinks he can beat, Trump asks: “Why doesn’t he show his birth certificate? I want him to show his birth certificate!”

“There’s something on that birth certificate that he doesn’t like,” said Trump, defying all intelligence (here's Obama's birth certificate, idiot).

He pointed to Elisabeth Hasselbeck and said, “Look, she’s smiling!” She was, perhaps because she anticipated Whoopi's reply, which was:

“Donald, I think that’s the biggest pile of dog mess I’ve heard in ages! It’s not because he’s black, is it?” Trump denied that it was, but ...

“Because I’ve never heard a white president being asked to show his birth certificate. That’s B.S.” said Goldberg vehemently, and truthfully.

Trump admitted that Obama "probably" is a citizen but insists he should prove it because "no one" remembers him from when he was a kid. Really.

What do you think? Is Obama a natural-born U.S. citizen?
