That's the focal point of this drama-filled episode.

In her continuing efforts to forge a friendship with her former flame, Jason Wahler, star Lauren Conrad wasn't exactly expecting to learn that ...

  1. He has a new girlfriend.
  2. Oh, and they're living together.
  3. They're engaged! Surprise! Woo!

Jason drops bombs #1 and #2 during a lunch date with LC, inviting her to a housewarming party thrown by himself and his new gal. She accepts.

Only when Lauren and Audrina Patridge attend said party do they learn the full extent of Jason's relationship with Katja Decker-Sadowski.

The big moment comes when a drunk frat guy offers a toast - with a plastic cup of beer, just pumped from a keg - to celebrate the engagement of Wahler.

Lauren's eyes widened to the size of dinner plates.

Her heartbreak and complete shock evident, LC feigns happiness for a time, though later she confides to Jason that "I think you're being an idiot."

After all, he's only 20 years old and still in a recovering alcoholics program that recommends he not date anyone... let alone get engaged to someone.

A calm Jason Wahler just rolls with his ex-girlfriend's criticism, though, and is clearly happy with Katja Decker-Sadowski, a tennis player at USC.

The highlight of the night came when a clearly jealous Katja interrupted Lauren's during her heart-to-heart with Jason on the deck, heaving herself on Wahler's lap in one of the most awkward moments in Hills history. What a bitch!

Whitney Port, Lauren Conrad

Left: Jason and fiancee Katja Decker-Sadowski. Right: LC and Whitney.

The next day, Lauren Conrad reflected on the events with a cooler head, saying "this could have been me ... but as much as I love Jason, I'm glad it's not!"

She also noted that she's dreamed about the day gets engaged and it doesn't involve plastic cups of beer and Bob Marley posters. Same here, Lauren!

In other news, Whitney Port drops the ball a little at Teen Vogue when she is in charge of a photo shoot for a band, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, but goes out and parties with them late the night before and everyone shows up late. Fortunately, her editor, Lisa Love, only gives our girl a slight reprimand and tells her to step it up.

Lastly, the loathesome Spencer Pratt is not psyched about registering for wedding presents. Or telling his parents that he's engaged to Heidi Montag. The episode ends with Spence's sheepish admission that his folks don't even know... despite the fact that he's a media whore who appears on a well-known reality show!

Back her weekend away with the bumbling Justin-Bobby (Justin Brescia), Audrina Patridge announces that the volatile couple is sooo back on.

Lauren and Whitney, meanwhile, discuss the development at work the next day, where Whitney teases an obviously concerned Lauren Conrad.

Heidi Montag Pratt Picture

"They probably worked it out on their own," Whitney Port chides at her friend, adding, "no need for everyone else to get involved!"

Then none other than Jason Wahler calls, and Whitney shoots Lauren a look of disapproval over LC's decision to answer that Blackberry.

Jason takes Lauren to dinner at the new L.A. hotspot Ketchup, a place owned by none other than Paula Abdul boy toy J.T. Torregiani.

Wouldn't you know it, Spencer Pratt just happens to be taking Heidi Montag to that very place to celebrate her promotion at Bolthouse.

After Jason and Lauren share some awkward moments of nostalgic flirtation, the drama starts to go down when a sarcastic Spencer spots them, and says "It's great to see you guys back together, really, it's heartwarming."

LC restrains Jason, who wants to go over to their table and start $h!t. But the needling Spencer sends over a water and a Shirley Temple over to their table, prompting Conrad and Wahler to leave - and get heckled as they do.

Spencer's take: "I wonder if she picked him up in rehab or jail?"

Heidi's take: "After everything she's been through with Jason, and me... who was there for her, through all that hell, is the one she won't talk to... it's baffling."

Jason's take: "Who cares about them?"

Lauren's take: Not a lot, but she gave Jason Wahler SERIOUS kiss-me-now eyes when he drops her off afterwards. Damn, girl! Fortunately, J doesn't make a move. Lauren is really desperate for some loving, guys. Make a move!

Elodie's take: "What exactly did you do to her that makes her not even want to accept a drink from you? And also, you know, you were also friends with Audrina, and she doesn't talk to you anymore. You were friends with Whitney too. You don't even know what's wrong and what's right anymore. It's so sad!"

Oh. Snap. Clearly Heidi Montag's "all business" defense doesn't fly with Elodie, who's still bitter over losing out on that Bolthouse job and pretty damn sick of listening to Heidi whining and bossing around her new assistant.

Fans of The Hills may disagree on whether they support Team Lauren or Team Heidi (heaven only knows why), but everyone wants to see more Whitney Port.

Why is this beautiful, expressive, funny and surprisingly sage gal so sparingly seen on The Hills? In large part, because that's how Whitney wants it.

Despite being featured - and listed as a star - on all three seasons of The Hills, Whitney appears primarily in the familiar context of her Teen Vogue office.

Whitney has said specifically in several episodes of the MTV The Hills Aftershow that she prefers to keep her personal life - which includes a year-long relationship with one seriously lucky guy - away from the cameras.

Contrast that with Heidi Montag, who can't get in front of them enough.

As far as Whitney's career goes, we all know she was an intern at Teen Vogue for two years, along with her friend and The Hills biggest star, Lauren Conrad.

As documented at the end of Season Two of The Hills, Whitney Port applied for a full-time position at Teen Vogue, which she got, now making her LC's boss.

Before working at Teen Vogue, Whitney Port interned for Women's Wear Daily. She graduated from the University of Southern California in 2007.

She currently lives in L.A. with Christina Schuller, who was also a cast member on Laguna Beach. Rumor has it that she was considering moving in with LC.

Whitney Catherine Port was born March 4, 1985, and raised in Los Angeles, Calif. Whitney's parents, along with her brother, Ryan, and her sisters, Paige, Jade and Ashley, still live in Los Angeles.

All in all, The Hills weren't as alive last night as weeks past, but there were some cute moments, unintentional comedy, and groundwork laid for future meltdowns and cat fights. In short, it was a terrific half hour of reality television.

The much-hyped Lauren-Jason reunion was a little anticlimactic, and was put off until the closing moments, but it turned out to be remarkably sweet.

As much as a scene featuring Jason Wahler can be, anyway.

Genuine and a tad awkward, Lauren Conrad was honest with her man when he asked why she cut him out of her life: "I had to make a clean break from you."

If LC were Audrina, she wouldn't have said "I want to be friends with you someday, not now," rather, she would've ridden into the sunset with J-Wahl.

Yes, roomie Patridge had done so earlier - literally - with Justin-Bobby (Justin Brescia) after taking him back for the 80th time. So touching.

Props to the producers at MTV for accenting both scenes with an emotional pop ballad about the perils of love and the challenge of finding one's soul mate. This may be reality TV, but it feels like a movie with an eight-figure budget.

Meanwhile, Friday Night Lights is pure fiction, yet feels like a documentary. But we're getting way off topic from The Hills here.

Anyway, Lauren and Jason met up for coffee and a heart-to-heart. Much as we look for ways to bash Jason Wahler, he seemed sincere and regretful, admitting to "being so out of control" and apologizing for his bad habits and behavior.

A calm, coherent, and clean cut (though still a little scruffy) Wahler was a nice change for fans of The Hills. Heck, we sure prefer him to Spencer Pratt. We wonder if this was all shot before his engagement to Katja Decker-Sadowski.

In any case, Whitney Port was shocked - in her typical, expressive fashion - when she heard about Jason's return. We always love Ms. Port and her role. Lauren would be advised to take her boss Whit's sage advice to heart. Girl knows her stuff!

LC and friends made a number of mature conclusions about guys this week, albeit ones they will probably ignore despite better judgment ...

  • Lauren Conrad stated that, as soon as you stop thinking about bad guys, they can sense it, like radar, and call. So true, girl!
  • There is no such thing as the perfect guy, noted Audrina Patriduge.
  • Not everyone's going to be your Prince Charming, added Whitney Port.
  • Oh, and never date your trainer. Audrina and Lauren ended up going out with their personal trainer, Jarett, and his lame friend, Derek, who Lauren was so turned off by, she could barely hide it. He talked about himself the entire time. Needless to say, LC's one-date streak curse remained intact.

They may have gotten dissed semi-hard by reality TV hater Justin Timberlake, but the lovely ladies from The Hills certainly made a positive impression Sunday, at least as far as this celebrity gossip blog is concerned.

Each dressed in their own gorgeous dresses, Lauren Conrad (wearing a Lauren Conrad fashion line custom design), Audrina Patridge and Whitney Port looked nothing short of fabulous at last night's MTV Music Video Awards.

Then again, when Britney Spears opens up an awards show, everyone else comes off looking good by comparison. With the possible exception of Kid Rock.

Anyway, check out this awesome pic of Lauren, Audrina and Whitney ...

Tell us, fans of The Hills. Whose VMAs dress do you like best? And how glad are you that Heidi and Spencer had other plans and didn't show up!

For Lauren Conrad, it's apparently tough to find a BFF and roommate with a boyfriend who doesn't suck. And turn her into a mother hen, of sorts.

The beautiful star of The Hills found herself in a somewhat familiar area Monday night, playing the third wheel as her roommate dated a new "hot" guy.

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag at Area

Only this time it's not Heidi Montag, but new BFF, Audrina Patridge, and on-again boyfriend, Justin... whose friends, of course, call him Bobby. Thus, Justin-Bobby.

What's J-B's actual name? We have no idea. Nor would we care, except that Audrina Patridge is apparently too clueless to give this assbag the boot.

After a standoffish meeting with Lauren - the guy showcased his belching skillz and displayed the maturity of an eight-year-old in an upscale eatery (no joke) - Conrad will likely have less-nice, more descriptive nicknames for Justin-Bobby.

Mumbling, hiding under a hood and telling Lauren Conrad bluntly that he doesn't care about her opinion, Justin-Bobby is shaping up to be a worthy competitor for Spencer.

The scheming Spencer Pratt does a much better job of making himself compelling to watch, though - even the haters have to give him that.

Despite a desire not to hurt Lauren, who told her she should pull the plug, Audrina nonetheless found herself back with the motorcycle-riding bad boy by the episode's end.

As Lauren Conrad herself knows, sometimes the bad boys are the hardest to let go of. But will LC give Audrina flak for giving Justin-Bobby this second chance?

In other dysfunctional relationship news, the newly engaged Heidi Montag showed off her fake engagement ring at work, then struggled to set the ground rules for cohabitation. Her methods of choice were passive-agressive - and entertaining!

After Spencer Pratt "surprised" his lovely lover with vintage '80s arcade games and a graffiti-splashed living room wall, and didn't listen to her pleas for even a little input as to home decor, Heidi gave him a taste of his own medicine.

Spencer came home to find Heidi paint-rolling over his "artwork," offering him his very own "surprise" - a clean, plain, off-white wall!

Pratt fumed as Montag explained that if they plan to make this "engagement thing" work, they're going to have to make decisions together. Spencer was seething as he agreed as he stared forlornly at his once glorious wall. In a moment, though, he picked up a roller and finished off Heidi's project.

Is Spencer now thinking pal Brody Jenner may have been right when he said marriage was just an institution for dumb guys who can't get otherwise laid?

Who knows. But next week on The Hills, Spencer ditches a Brody BBQ to meet Heidi's parents in Colorado, while Brody and LC commiserate over their lost friendships. Meanwhile, Audrina encounters drama with Justin-Bobby - drama everyone in America saw coming but her!

"I literally feel, like, one of my friends... died."
- LC

After all this time, and hype, the much-anticipated season three premiere of MTV's The Hills didn't disappoint. For the most part.

Fake Girl

Monday's debut sure didn't waste any time bringing viewers inside the epic war between Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag, while properly (and blatantly) introducing each side's supporters.

Whitney Port - now a full-time employee and Lauren's supervisor at Teen Vogue - and Audrina Partridge are so on Team LC, while Montag's devilish boyfriend, Spencer Pratt, is Team Heidi's president, vice president, and PR coordinator.

Giving the people what they want, MTV began the year with a cat fight we knew happened, but have been wanting to see on film for moths, as a tipsy Lauren - enraged over rumors of her sex tape making the rounds - and Heidi hurled insults at each other outside Les Deux.

Lauren is convinced, right or wrong, that Heidi and Spencer started and spread the rumor of her making a sex video with ex-boyfriend Jason Wahler.

The gist of Lauren's position on the matter, as told to Heidi Montag: "You know what you did! You know what you did! You're a sad, pathetic person!"

That about covers it.

"I could just never imagine hating someone so much that you'd do something like that to them," Lauren Conrad said later, reflecting on the incident.

Oh well. She has other things to worry about, like meeting the boy du jour at the club, and whether or not to criticize Audrina's boy, a mumbling, biker, hippie-type who she dated off and on a few years back and doesn't say much.

We heart Lauren, but at the same time, we wonder if she's not - at least at times - taking out some of her own frustrations and insecurities on her friends.

The fabulous Lauren Conrad is featured on the cover of August's issue of Teen Vogue.

LC appears on the cover of the magazine with her fellow co-star on The Hills, Whitney Port.

Of course, fans know that Lauren and Whitney work together as interns ... at Teen Vogue.

Think that perhaps, this gives them a leg up on any possible cover competition? Just a little?

Then again, when you look at this pair of California cuties, you wonder why the magazine would ever need to go outside its own offices for cover girls.

Lauren, Whitney and the rest of The Hills cast return Monday, August 13, for the third (and likely) final season of the hit series, a spin-off of Laguna Beach.

Rumor has it that The Hills has been reportedly extended to 18 episodes by MTV, giving LC, Whit, Heidi, Audrina Patridge more air time than ever. Which is, like, totally sweet!

For now, though, here are a few pictures of Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port from behind the scenes of their photo shoot, which is featured in this month's Teen Vogue.

Whitney, LC

ABOVE, LEFT: Being a cover girl is hard work! Whitney looks a little worn out, but fortunately, her parents were there to support her throughout the ordeal. When she got the chills in between shots, her folks kept a white robe handy.

ABOVE, RIGHT: Lauren Conrad is considerably shorter than Whitney, so LC had to wear heels or stand on a crate to make up the difference in some of the Teen Vogue photos.

On last night's finale of Season 2 of MTV's The Hills, we saw Heidi Montag (right) move out of the apartment she shared with Lauren Conrad (left) and move in with her much-reviled boyfriend, Spencer Pratt - to the disgust of Conrad and everyone here at The Hollywood Gossip.

Minus Miss Montag, the cast of The Hills - Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port and Lauren Conrad - stopped by MTV's TRL in New York to chat about the season finale of their hit reality show, which aired that night.

Pimp and Ho

They didn't reveal too many details, but sources close to the cast report that a lot has gone down between the former roommates since the dramatic moving-out episode.

"Lauren and Heidi are no longer friends," a Hills source tells Us Weekly. "They never talk or hang out. Spencer achieved his goal and broke them apart."

This budding celebrity feud heated up even more Monday, when Montag ditched out on MTV's invitation to attend The Hills: Finale After Party - filmed before a live studio audience at MTV Studios in NYC last night.

During the broadcast, when host Susie Castillo asked Lauren Conrad how her friendship is with Heidi since The Hills concluded, she replied bluntly, "It's definitely different."

So why did Heidi Montag decline to join fellow Hills stars LC, Audrina, and Whitney (pictured below) at the after party show? A source close to the brash londe says she opted to stay back in Los Angeles with Pratt, who was not invited.

"Heidi was offended they wouldn't invite Spencer," says the source.

We're stunned that MTV didn't want that dirtbag on the air any longer. Anyway. Despite everything that happened, Lauren Conrad has not officially ruled out a reconciliation with her former BFF.

Asked whether she and Heidi could be friends again if she breaks up with Spencer Pratt, Conrad openly said it would be possible - and likely.

"Of course, I love Heidi. I was in a similar situation with her last year when I moved out with my boyfriend [Jason Wahler]. Heidi and I barely talked, but as soon as we broke up, she was there for me, and it only made our friendship stronger."

Meanwhile, Pratt and Montag are still shacking up in a Hollywood apartment.

"We're going to take over the world," Pratt recently told Us Weekly. "Heidi is the biggest star from that show."

Not if we see you at Hyde and beat you down first. Ass.

Spencer Pratt.

Few words, phrases or individuals have ever enraged the Hollywood Gossip staff to this degree. OMFG. Has anyone ever deserved to be rolled up in a carpet and thrown off a bridge more than this a$$hole? The next time we see you at Hyde or Les Deux - yes, we go there, Spencer Pratt, and we will be watching you - you better grow eyes in the back of your head. We'll leave it at that.

Dweebs For a Good Cause

That should give you an idea of how the season finale of The Hills went last night, but we'll delve into further details for you just the same.

For a show that's supposed to star Lauren Conrad, there's a lot of stuff happening to people around her as she sits at home on the sofa reading (but still looking very fashionable, we might add).

Not that we're upset. We love the new Lauren Conrad who's emerged this season and doesn't take any crap. But in Season 3, let's have the girl do something. You heard us, MTV.

From the onset, the homebody LC bombarded one-time BFF Heidi Montag with zingers over her wishy-washy should-I-live-with-Spencer nonsense.

"You don't even live with me," Lauren Conrad snapped. "I just live with your stuff."

We knew what Heidi's decision was going to be for two reasons: She's weak, and the previews gave it away. But we're getting ahead of ourselves. The other person actually out doing stuff was Whitney Port, jetting off to NYC to interview for the permanent Teen Vogue job.

Wonderful as always, Whitney knocks 'em dead in the interview, but we're left hanging as to whether she beats out the other intern applicants. Cross your fingers, Hills watchers!

Okay, now we talk about what a psycho move it was for Spencer Pratt to get a new apartment after Heidi Montag clearly said no, then take her there as "a big surprise" and beg for her to move in again. And she did. Sellout.

Back at home, Heidi dropped the news to LC that she'd be moving out - a boring conversation so anticlimactic after all the talk about it that we almost clicked over to The Bachelor. Only we had it TiVo'd, so there's no point.

Over at the condo of Brody Jenner, Spencer was explaining that he really just wanted to keep Heidi away from Lauren and reassuring his buddy that he's a player 4 lyfe, yo, and would not be denied just because Heidi's movin' in!

The guy needs to be beaten repeatedly with a tire iron and strangled with his own retarded looking gold chain. You're not cool, bro. No one wears those.

We would leave it at that if it weren't for a brilliant exchange between Heidi and her co-worker, Elodie (what kind of name is that, and what do they actually do at work?) about Heidi's plans to cook dinner for the amazing Spencer that night.

Elodie: Do you even have all the equipment to cook? What's it called?
Heidi Montag: Dinner?
Elodie: No.
Heidi Montag: Pasta?
Elodie: No. The equipment to cook, like, pots, pans.
Heidi Montag
: Oh, I have to go get all that.

Lauren, meanwhile, was celebrating the conclusion of the epic roomie drama with champagne and pizza ... and her brand new roomie... Audrina Patridge!

We weren't big Audrina fans at first, but she's come around. In short, this episode was a complete waste of time, in that there was no drama and nothing new was revealed. But we love The Hills just the same, and can't wait for the next season with the girls.
