In response to a Freedom of Information Act request, the FBI has released 128 pages of files on Whitney Houston.

And based at least some of the documents, it looks like Houston was the subject of an extortion plot in 1992.

In a letter actually marked "extortion," a woman threatens to release "certain details" of the singer's "private life" unless she is paid $100,000. A subsequent note ups the ask to $250,000 and makes a reference to Houston's "romantic relationships."

The music world lost an all-time great one year ago today.

Whitney Houston passed away from a drug overdose inside a hotel room on Grammy Awards Sunday in 2012, leaving behind her a troubled teenager and a legacy that may never be matched.

In the 365 days that have passed since Whitney left us, daughter Bobbi Kristina has battled her own personal demons, while Houston's family has signed in to star in a reality show.

Elsewhere, Cissy Houston just released a memoir about her child and contestants on singing shows such as The Voice and American Idol continue to honor the star by covering her best-known tracks.

There were an incredible number of them.

Rest in peace, Whitney Houston.

Cissy Houston has been making the media rounds over the past few days, sharing memories of her late daughter and promoting her book, "Remember Whitney."

But there's at least one person who won't be reading this revealing biography: the late's singer's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown.

"Anything concerning my grandmother's book, I and @nickgordon of course personally have nothing to with," the teenager has Tweeted to her nearly 120,000 followers, adding:

"I haven't read and won't... I find it to be disrespectful to my mother and me being her daughter won't tolerate it."

What do you think of Cissy penning this book?

In an interview with The Today Show yesterday, Cissy Houston said she does not blame anyone for her daughter's death.

But Michael Houston taped an interview with Oprah Winfrey this week and admits that he got Whitney started on crack cocaine many, many years ago.

"You gotta understand at the time, Michael says. "[It was] the 80s... it was acceptable."

Cissy Houston stopped by The Today Show this morning, partly to promote her new book, "Remembering Whitney: My Story of Love, Loss, and the Night the Music Stopped."

And partly to make all viewers cry.

During an emotional interview with Savannah Guthrie, Cissy remained mostly quiet and stoic, clearly still affected by her family's loss.

"I miss her so much, I can’t even express it," Cissy said of Whitney Houston, who died nearly a year ago.

Nine months after the tragic passing of Whitney Houston, a new track by the legendary artist has been released.

Titled "Never Give Up," the song was recorded not long before Houston died in February. It's a sad, hip hop-inflected single whose lyrics focus on one's struggling to keep going in life.

Look for it to be included on "I Will Always Love You," the greatest hits album that comes out off RCA Records on November 13.

In September, Clive Davis unveiled a Whitney and R. Kelly duet, "I Look to You," which was also recorded in early 2012.

Yes, Bobbi Kristina Brown is engaged to Nick Gordon.

And based on the following promo for The Houstons: On Our Own - the Lifetime reality series that premieres October 24 and isn't at all exploiting the death of Whitney Houston for ratings - her family is anything but happy over that news.

The 19-year old and the fiance who she got to know when her mother essentially adopted him as her son many years ago are at the center of this trailer, which paints the Houstons as on par with the Kardashians.

Hard to believe Whitney is looking down in approval of this nonsense. Watch for yourself:

Nearly eight months since Whitney Houston died in Beverly Hills, close friend and world famous producer Clive Davis has given fans a chance to listen to new music from the legendary artist.

Davis called in this morning to "On Air with Ryan Seacrest" and premiered "I Look to You," a duet between Houston and R. Kelly that the former recorded not long before her tragic demise.

A video of a random girl singing Whitney Houston's timeless hit "I Will Always Love You" at a mall karaoke machine is going viral, and it's easy to see why.

She's awesome. Some have speculated that she MUST be lip-synching to sound that good, but she's not ... nor is she as totally "random" as it may seem.

The young woman is Zendee Rose, a former contestant on the Philippines' version of The X Factor. Amazingly, these pipes didn't get her past Boot Camp:

Whitney would be proud. So would Ellen DeGeneres, who is probably on the phone as we speak trying to track down Zendee and book her for next week.
