Late last month, Weird Al Yankovic scored his first-ever number-one album.

But thousands of fans around the country are hoping to help the unique artist earn an even bigger honor next year: Super Bowl halftime performer!

Weird Al Yankovic - White & Nerdy
Weird Al gets White & Nerdy in this hilarious 2009 music video parody of "Ridin' Dirty."

A petition has launched on Change.org that urges the NFL to select Weird Al for the big game on February 1, with over 40,000 names affixed to it as of this writing.

"Think about the Super Bowls of past years, when you had no vested interest in either team, especially during a game that was a blowout or boring," says Ed Ball, a fan from Seattle who started the petition while drunk.

Weird Al Yankovic has enjoyed a long and storied career, with nearly four decades of parodying popular chart-toppers.

Now, the beloved comic is breathing the same rarefied air as the artists he lampoons, as his 14th studio album, Mandatory Fun has officially debuted at number one!

Weird Al: Mandatory Fun Cover

Given the hilarious nature of the lyrics and the ingenious marketing strategy of having Al release a song a day online for eight straight days, it's no surprise that the album is Yankovic's most popular to date.

At 54, the spoof artist still has his finger on the pulse of popular music, and he kicked off last week's promotional campaign with the debut of "Tacky," a take on Pharell's omnipresent mega-hit "Happy."

Weird Al Yankovic is taking a break from singing about Foil.

He's not bothering to get Handy at the moment.

He isn't too worried about Word Crimes right now.

Instead, the unique singer is asking us to feel very bad for him due to a number of "First World Problems," such as itchy sheets, a lack of Wi-Fi in his mansion and the lengths he needed to go to to qualify for free shipping on Amazon.

Yes, these are tough times for Weird Al, folks. Watch him croon about them now:

Poor guy, right?

Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" is probably the biggest hit of the year so far, playing around the clock on the radio and nominated for several 2014 MTV Video Music Awards.

In other words, it was a virtual guarantee to appear on Weird Al's new album.

Mandatory Fun dropped earlier this week, and the master parodist hasbeen releasing one music video per day as part of his #8Videos8Days project.

He's given us "Tacky" (Happy), "Word Crimes" (Blurred Lines) and "Foil" (Royals). Now, instead of being so "Fancy" like Iggy and Charli XCX, Al is "Handy."

Seriously. The Weird one is a real do-it-yourselfer!

Weird Al’s Iggy parody is easily his best-timed of the new offerings, as the earworm of a song is sitting atop the Billboard Hot 100 right now.

As always, he got her permission to record it.

The song itself, about a handyman - “I’m so handy, everyone says so / I’ll grout your bathroom, resurface your patio” - is nothing like Azalea in concept.

He does bring it back to I-G-G-Y at one point, though, rapping in reference to her verse on Ariana Grande's "Problem" that "I got 99 problems but a switch ain’t one."

Classic Weird Al.

Lorde has been given the royal treatment by Weird Al Yankovic.

On the heels of "Tacky" and "Word Crimes" - parodies of Iggy Azalea and Robin Thicke, respectively - Weird Al has honored Lorde by sending up her first smash, "Royals."

The following track is titled "Foil" as the comedy/music icon uses his video to cover all of the aluminium foil essentials, from keeping food fresh to how it is used in alien conspiracies.

Intrigued? Already laughing? Watch now:

Weird Al Yankovic has been doing this for MANY years.

Weird Al Yankovic has managed to already top himself.

Just a day after going viral with "Tacky," a parody of Pharrell's monster hit "Happy," the creative musician is back with "Word Crimes."

This time around, Weird Al is taking on everyone's favorite target, Robin Thicke, keeping the general rhythm of his smash "Blurred Lines," but making the track all about grammar instead of, you know, quasi rape.

There is no Miley Cyrus twerking in this video. But there is a lot of talk about definitions and punctuations.

Don't be a moran, people. Give it a listen now:

Weird Al Yankovic is back with his latest music video parody, and it lives up to his high standards. "Tacky" is a parody of (you guessed it) Pharrell's "Happy."

The master lyricist, satirist and long-haired accordion god dropped the star-studded video - the first of his #8videos8days project - earlier today on Nerdist.

Check out the official "Tacky" video and watch for guest appearances from Aisha Tyler, Margaret Cho, Eric Stonestreet, Kristen Schaal and Jack Black:

“We’re going to have some fun today!” Al told the site before the video was filmed. “Thank you, Pharrell; I really appreciate it - you’re a cool guy."

Weird Al does not need permission to spoof these hit songs in his unique style; since they're parodies, his rights to do so are legally protected.

He always gets it anyway, though, so there's no bad blood and the original artist approves. Knowing Pharrell signed off on this makes it even better.

Weird Al Yankovic, who has been recording musical parodies of hit songs for 30 years, confirms that he is working on new material for his latest release.

The master of the musical and video spoof was strolling into a building in New York and told TMZ that, "I'm working on the new album right now."

With more than 150 songs and three Grammys, it's the definition of irony - but nonetheless well-deserved - that Al's career has outlasted many artists he's parodied.

Case in point? When Weird Al put his EPIC rapping and lyrical skills on display for 2009's "White & Nerdy," a takeoff on Chamillionaire's "Ridin' Dirty."

If you haven't seen/heard it, it's worth four minutes of your life:

The music video for Weird Al Yankovic's much-discussed Lady Gaga parody "Perform This Way" has arrived, and it's as outlandish as you'd expect.

True to form, the lyrics are hilarious and the visuals play off them well, but Lady Gaga provided a unique challenge as far as Al spoof targets go.

In order to skewer someone as bombastic as Lady Gaga (this is a woman who wears outfits like these), a parody has to be REALLY out there!

Does Weird Al's head superimposed on a hot chick's body qualify, with his geeky dome bobbing horribly (intentionally) out of sync? We'd say so.

Weird Al, ironically, has made a career out of this nonsense ... and outlasted the careers of many of the people he's lampooned in this fashion.

Gaga doesn't appear to be a flash in the plan, but if she knows what's good for her, she'll adopt Yankovic's look in a future video of her own.

How awesome would that be to bring it full circle.

Weird Al Yankovic, whose career comprised of parodying hit songs has lasted longer and been more lucrative than many of his subjects, has released a new gem.

"Perform This Way" is Al's take on Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," and includes plenty of the satirical lyrical wordplay that are Yankovic's hilarious trademarks.

Its release follows myriad reports that Gaga blocked the parody - which she can't even do, legally, but Al always gets permission from the stars in good faith.

In any case, Gaga’s manager nixed it without telling her. Word got back to Gaga, who was not pleased. The manager is sorry. Gaga loves it. Everyone is happy.

Here's Weird Al's "Perform This Way," his homage to Gaga, with lyrics:
