Tobey Maguire is going all in on one of the stranger celebrity scandals of 2011.

The actor is accused of winning over $300,000 in allegedly illegal poker games ran by Bradley Ruderman, a man serving time in jail for organizing a Ponzi scheme. But Maguire has filed papers that insist he did no wrong.

In his response to the lawsuit filed last week, the former Spider-Man star says the gambling took place in "controlled games," which obligated the host to have a license. He goes on to deny any role in defrauding those from whom Ruderman took money.

The documents acknowledge Maguire's role in various poker nights, but denies they were comprised of a "regular roster of players consisting of wealthy celebrities, entrepreneurs, attorneys and businessmen."

It's certainly an unexpected web in which Maguire has found himself entangled.

Tobey Maguire never predicted he'd be ensnared in this kind of web.

The actor was part of high-stakes poker games involving Hollywood's biggest stars, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

But Maguire, who frequently came out on top, is being sued for some of the winnings earned in the underground games, to the tune of $311,000. Why?

Because a bankruptcy trustee is suing Maguire and others who participated in the poker matches to try to recoup $4 million for investors. Why?

Because the money he won was originally taken in a Ponzi scheme by its architect, Bradley Ruderman, who is now serving 10 years in prison.

We know. It's a really strange case.

Nailed for perpetrating a wire fraud and investment advisor fraud scheme, Ruderman lost about $5.2 million in investors' money in a "clandestine high-stakes poker game held on a regular basis in a suite at a luxury Beverly Hills hotel."

Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire and his wife, Jennifer Meyer, welcomed their second child Friday, the actor's rep confirmed to People magazine.

"I can confirm the Maguires had a baby boy today, and the family is healthy and happy," said Kelly Bush on behalf of the happily married pair.

Tobey Maguire, 33, and Jennifer Meyer, 31, are also parents to daughter Ruby Sweetheart, 2 1/2. The couple met in 2003 and married in 2007.

In November, a source said they were "thrilled" to be expecting a second child. "They can't wait to expand their family with another little one."

They met in 2003 while Maguire was shooting the movie Seabiscuit, and wed in Hawaii in September 2007, shortly after Ruby was born.

Congrats to this happy, seemingly normal couple!

Over the weekend, Tobey Maguire made an honest woman out of Jennifer Meyer when this long-time couple tied the proverbial knot.

Maguire and Meyer exchanged vows Monday in a sunset ceremony in Kona in front of a small group of family and friends, including Leonardo DiCaprio. The two have been dating since 2003 and seem like one of the more normal couples in Hollywood.

Then again, so did Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams.

We hope Tobey and Jennifer have better success than that pair did.

Celebrities. They're just like us. They hang out with their friends! Only in their case, those buddies are also celebrities. In our case, they're just celebrity gossip writers. Oh well.

Tobey Maguire only plays a superhero on the big screen.

But the actor is still an important figure in real life, especially now that he's engaged the father of a 6-month-old girl. As People magazine relays, Tobey is more focused than ever on what matters.

"I've changed a lot over the last six years," Maguire told reporters at the Spider-Man 3 press day Friday in Los Angeles.

The biggest change of all? Being daddy to Ruby Sweetheart, his daughter with fiancée Jennifer Meyer, born in November.

"I love being a dad!" said a glowing Maguire. "I love my daughter...yeah, it's definitely amazing! It's like everybody says, all the clichés are true-it's indescribable and you just have to be there to understand it. You know, you don't really get it until you're there."

Well, Marcia Cross can certainly relate now at least.

Maguire's Spider-Man 3 costar and friend Bryce Dallas Howard got a firsthand look at Maguire as a father and was impressed.

"Being a father was even more of a fulfillment of [Maguire's] natural instincts," she said. "And the natural way that he is in the world. And he is just... he is incredible.

Slow down there, Bryce. Tobey is taken. But if you're looking for a single guy to take home, Jason Wahler is probably lonely these days.

We know how excited you are about still images of Kim Kardashian nude from her sex tape with Ray J. Put those out of your mind for a moment, though, and focus on exciting new movie shots from Spider-Man 3. The film hits theaters this summer.

But you don't need to wait any longer to see how Tobey Maguire looks in black as our favorite webbed super hero. The answer: sleek, sexy and on the prowl for bad guys.

In the upcoming movie, one of those bad guys is played by Thomas Haden Church. He's best known at the moment for his role in Sideways, but that should change after he plots something evil against Spider-Man and his love, Mary Jane, in a couple months.

That part is played by Kirsten Dunst, of course. We couldn't track down any pics of her right now, though. Probably because she's too busy dating every single actor in Hollywood.

Move over, Brangelina.

Take a seat, Bennifer.

Stop being insane, TomKat.
