The head of the European golf tour apologized for using the term "colored" in a TV interview in which he was reacting to the Tiger Woods-Sergio Garcia feud.

European Tour CEO George O'Grady commented, in defense of Garcia, that "most of Sergio's friends are colored athletes in the United States."

The word "colored" was once widely used in the United States to refer to African-Americans but it is now considered antiquated and offensive.

As a result, "I deeply regret using an inappropriate word in a live TV interview for Sky Sports for which I unreservedly apologize," said O'Grady.

Under fire from media and fans, European Tour star Sergio Garcia issued a second and far more sincere apology for his racist joke about Tiger Woods.

Garcia made the wisecrack about Woods at a tour function the previous night, and acknowledges his comments were "totally stupid and out of place."

There is no love lost between the two golfers, who have been engaged in a war of words via the media going back two weeks to The Players Championship.

It turned ugly this week when Sergio was asked if he would have Tiger over for dinner at the U.S. Open. Yes, he quipped, and "we'll serve fried chicken every night."

Garcia, 33, said that he made a "silly" response to an obvious joke and said his intent was not to be racist. But Woods, 37, was far from pleased.

Spanish golf star Sergio Garcia is apologizing following a joke he cracked at rival Tiger Woods' expense Tuesday that many interpreted as racist.

At the European Tour's Players’ Awards dinner, Garcia was asked by The Golf Channel if he would have Woods over for dinner during the U.S. Open.

"We will have him round every night," Garcia responded to the obvious joke question, according to The Guardian. "We will serve fried chicken."

Some guests were stunned by the quip. An unnamed "leading Tour professional," reportedly remarked to a nearby journalist, "You didn’t hear that."

Of course, Ewan Murray of The Guardian did hear it.

The exchange quickly was picked up by various media outlets, and Garcia issued an apology via the European Tour that was obtained by The AP.

Tiger Woods took the field to school at the Players Championship the week before last. Now he's taking his kids to school, literally, with Lindsey Vonn.

Here's the athletic couple in North Palm Beach, Fla., today with young Sam, 5, and Charlie, 4, his children with former wife Elin Nordegren:

Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn, who announced their dating status in March, kept stoic expressions on their faces as they dropped off the kids.

Just one day earlier, Vonn, 28, took her beau's kids to school solo. On Tuesday, the golfer stepped out with his skier girlfriend - both in athletic gear.

They already confirmed their romance on Facebook, but Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn made their public debut as a couple at last night's MET Gala.

Now the most buzzed-about and clicked-on couple in sports is official in a way that only a joint red carpet appearance can make you official. Take a look:

Lindsey Vonn and Tiger Woods were guests of Vogue at the high-fashion NYC soiree.

It is known in the couture industry as the "night of nights" or something along those lines.

In any case, the world's #1 golfer looked happy to be there, and with his new girlfriend.

Understandable, as she was the second hottest SI cover girl there after Kate Upton.

Thomas Vonn, the ex-husband of Lindsey Vonn, took a shot at Tiger Woods' rules violation at the Masters over the weekend, which cost the golfer two strokes.

"You always have to keep an eye on those cheaters :)" he wrote.

Tiger incurred the penalty after he hit a wedge shot into the water and officials deemed the placement of his new ball was not in accordance with the rules.

Thomas and Lindsey Vonn divorced following four years of marriage. She's now dating Woods, who will be forever known for a different kind of cheating.

The New York Post also couldn't resist linking Tiger's illegal second round drop at the Masters - won by Adam Scott - with his infamous cheating scandal.

Tiger Woods' hit perhaps the unluckiest shot in the history of golf yesterday, and to add insult to injury, may have inadvertently committed a rules violation to boot.

On Friday at the Masters, Woods' third shot to the Par-5 15th green was DEAD on the money, only it hit the flag stick and ricocheted back into the water.

It was an amazing fluke. Take a look:

Tiger Woods is the talk of this year's Masters, and not just because he's dating Lindsey Vonn, who's there to cheer him on, or because he's possibly the best golfer ever.

On the 11th hole Thursday, Tiger hit the green in regulation, but left himself a long birdie putt ... which apparently warranted some (mostly light-hearted) profanity.

This isn't Woods' f-bomb, of course, and it won't be the last.

But when it takes place after halfway decent shots? The rest of the field had better watch out. Tiger is currently four behind the lead heading into round two.

Lindsey Vonn made her Masters debut this morning.

The Olympic ski racing champion was spotted at the Augusta National Golf Club veranda next to a putting practice green watching Tiger Woods warm up.

With her not-inconspicuous sighting on golf's biggest stage, the couple - which recently confirmed they're dating - is clearly comfortable taking things public!

Dressed in a long beige dress that hid a large brace on her surgically reconstructed right knee, Lindsey Vonn plans to watch the first hole in person.

After that, she'll have to watch from the clubhouse.

Lindsey Vonn certainly has a sense of humor about things.

Appearing at the Vail Celebration of Champions, the injured ski champ held a meet-and-greet with fans when she was asked what she does in her spare time.

Per Colorado's 9News, as Vonn was answering that she likes to hang out with friends and family, someone in the crowd yelled out, "What about Tiger?"

"OK, guys, I play golf, OK?!" she replied with a laugh.

Since confirming that they're dating, Lindsey Vonn and Tiger Woods have both been candid about things, and the couple seems to be truly happy.
