Thia Megia and Naima Adedapo React to American Idol Elimination
It was the end of an impressive, talented run for Thia Megia and Naima Adedapo on American Idol last night. The singers were both eliminated, as the show cuts its number of finalists down to nine.
How did they react to the news?
Backstage, shortly after hearing her name called by Ryan Seacrest, Thia told Entertainment Weekly she was proud of her song choice ("Daniel," dedicated to her brother, which she said made him "cry) and that she has a lot to offer the music world.
I can do “so much more than just slower songs and ballads," Megia said. "In the future, I see me as being my own artist and definitely not a ballad singer!”
Thia Megia Plays It (Too?) Safe

The young American Idol hopeful dedicated her rendition of "Daniel" to her brother and was told by Jimmy Iovine that "if they believe it, you get to the following week. If they don't, I don't believe you do."
So the challenge was laid out, and Megia didn't falter in the face of it. But she also performed yet another ballad, the third of the evening, and one that couldn't compete with those of Lauren Alaina and Pia Toscano.
Might Thia be in trouble? Randy said she may have played it too safe. We'll find out tonight.
Thia Megia Brings the Heat Wave
Only 16 years old, Thia Megia was born a full generation after the end of Motown.
But that didn't stop this talented crooner from showing off a bit of rhythm and belting out Martha and the Vandellas' "(Love Is Like A) Heat Wave" on last night's American Idol performance show.
What is the best audition of the evening? No, we'd give that honor to Jacob Lusk or James Durbin. But it was a different type of song for Thia, who proved her versatility a bit, as Jennifer Lopez said: "I feel like we're scratching the surface with you a little bit."
Thia Megia Makes Like Pocahontas
Tasked with covering a song from the year of her birth, Thia Megia went all Disney on American Idol viewers last night.
The season 10 hopeful delivered a lovely version of Vanessa Williams' "Colors of the Wind" from the 1995 film Pocahontas. Wow. Yes, Thia Megia was born in 1995. It's a safe choice, one that shows off Megia's steady, strong tone and style.

Thia Megia Tries to Make Viewers Smile
Thia Megia kept it simple on American Idol last night.
The young singer took to the stage and covered "Smile" on this week's performance show, earning a comparison to Michael Jackson and Adele from Randy Jackson. But Steven Tyler found the rendition "a little pitchy," while Jennifer Lopez said she found the arrangement "interesting."
That's code for: I disliked it.

Thia Megia on American Idol: Simple, Subdued, Strong
All the American Idol chatter this morning may be over Pia Toscano and her rendition of "I'll Stand By You," but another semifinalist also assured herself of a spot in the finals with a beautiful ballad cover.
Thia Megia, only 15 years old (and confused over how to prove that, as Ryan Seacrest tried to joke about), delivered a simple version of "Out Here On My Own," a song featured in "Fame."
Without trying to do too much, the singer took a single with which few are familiar (always a smart move) and simply stood on stage and let her voice do all the work. It was an especially confident, mature performance from someone so young. Enjoy it here:

The race for the season 10 American Idol crown is officially on.
With this week's naming of the top 24, the men are prepared to do battle on Tuesday night, with the women taking to the stage an evening latter. Two of the females that will aim to impress? Haley Reinhart and Thia Megia.
