Just when you think you've heard it all.

Ryan O'Neal admits he has been so estranged from his daughter Tatum O'Neal that he hit on her at Farrah Fawcett's funeral because he didn't recognize her.

Farrah passed away June 25, a few hours before Michael Jackson.

"I had just put the casket in the hearse and I was watching it drive away when a beautiful blonde woman comes up and embraces me," Ryan told Vanity Fair.

"I said to her, 'You have a drink on you? You have a car?' She said, 'Daddy, it's me, Tatum!' I was just trying to be funny, and it's my daughter. It's so sick."

Fortunately, Tatum says she wasn't creeped out.

"That's our relationship in a nutshell," says the actress, who won an Oscar at age 10 for starring with Ryan in Paper Moon. "Make of it what you will. It had been a few years since we'd seen each other, and he was always a ladies' man."

Tatum had struggled with addiction growing up and hadn't spoken to her dad in years. Penning her 2004 memoir A Paper Life didn't help things, either.

Ryan recalls thinking. "How dare she throw our laundry in the street for money!"

Tatum, who was arrested for buying crack in June 2008, and has a history of problems, says her father "has every right to be angry about the book."

"No parent wants to hear their kid saying sh!t about them... But what I wrote in the book was true. I've got a battle with drugs, but I'm a strong, independent person, and I fight for myself, and my father and I butt heads."

"When I was 16 years old, he and Farrah moved in together, and after that I saw my dad periodically, and that took a long time to get over," she says.

"Would I do that to my kids? No, but I don't think Farrah was responsible for that. I truly thought Farrah Fawcett was inspirational and beautiful and kind. Anyway, it's past; I've moved on. I'm older now, and I forgive him."

Crime may not pay.

Neither will Tatum O'Neal, though.

Despite getting caught buying crack, the former wild child actress got charges of drug possession dropped by a New York judge and instead pleaded guilty to a modest, misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.

The damage? $95.

Manhattan judge Elisa Koenderman sentenced Tatum O'Neal, the youngest Oscar winner in history, to spend half-day sessions in a drug treatment program.

One wonders where Tatum O'Neal will come up with that kind of money.

Talk about a brutal punishment - brutally boring, that is. It's in New York, not L.A., so there's no way Snoop Dogg will even be there.

Fresh outta jail, crackhead actress Tatum O'Neal was owning up to her blunder. In fact, she thanked police officers who arrested her for "saving" her.

Tatum was arrested in New York City for buying crack cocaine from what appeared to be a drug dealer at 7:30 Sunday evening.

That's right. It's still light out at 7:30 p.m. Issues.

At the time of her arrest, the former Oscar winner told the cops she was "researching a part," one of the best celebrity excuses we've heard yet.

Upon her release from the slammer, however, Tatum O'Neal was signing a different tune, telling the New York Post that she was still sober.

She declared, "Just when I was about to change that and wreck my life, the cops came in and saved me!"

O'Neal also stated that she was driven to buy crack when - get ready for this one - her dog died. Yes, really. These last few weeks have been brutal.

"I couldn't get out of it. I was going to my psychiatrist. I was doing all I could do. I have the disease of alcoholism. It's lifelong. I treat it every day by going to my 12-step program," she said of her addiction.

When Tatum O'Neal was caught trying to purchase crack cocaine last night, she reportedly told the police that she was "researching a part as a junkie."

For some reason, those mean cops still arrested the former Oscar winner.

The chain of events got us thinking about what excuses other celebrities could have used when they were caught in sticky situations. For example...

Britney Spears, during her underwear-less, late-night jaunts to Hyde: "Ding dangit, I thought I was auditioning for Pants-Off Dance-Off, y'all!"

Kim Kardashian, following the release of her sex tape with Ray J: "I was told this would be a promotional package to be included with every Viagra sample."

Kim Kardashian thought her sex tape with Ray J would be used to assist older men.

Amy Winehouse, stoned out of her mind: "My husband [Blake Fielder-Civil] is storing his drugs in my stomach."

Miley Cyrus, after posing topless in Vanity Fair: "This will make a lot more sense to everyone when Hannah Montana Does Dallas comes out."

Denise Richards, responding to criticism of her reality show: "It's complicated, ok?!?"

Tatum O'Neal was due to be arraigned in New York Monday after being busted for buying crack cocaine near her home, according to authorities.

Police say the Oscar winner was seen making the illicit purchase at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Tatum O'Neal was tossed in jail overnight and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Also arrested at the scene was a 33-year-old man, believed to be a dealer.

The New York Post says O'Neal told cops, "You know who I am, right?" She said she was "researching a part - I'm doing this for a part as a junkie."

She is also quoted as asking detectives, "Can't we just forget about this?"

Tatum O'Neal is the daughter of actor Ryan O'Neal and the ex-wife of John McEnroe. In her autobiography, she says she was abandoned by a drug addict mom (actress Joanna Moore) at age seven and began using drugs by 14.

The winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for Paper Moon in 1973, O'Neal chronicled her struggles with addiction in her 2004 memoir, A Paper Life. The actress completed rehab in 1996 and claimed to be clean.
