American Idol fans may be torn on new judge Steven Tyler, but Kid Rock has made it very clear what he thinks of this rocker's decision to join the show.

"I think it's the stupidest thing he's ever done in his life," the Detroit native told Entertainment Weekly.

The worst kept secret in Hollywood is now official: Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will be the new judges on American Idol.

Following weeks of reliable speculation, both artists were introduced as part of a judging panel with Randy Jackson at a press conference in Los Angeles today. Lopez immediately set her sights as high as possible:

"I'm looking for the next Michael Jackson," she said.

Tyler was introduced to reporters as a "rock legend" and said his inclusion on the show feels "fabulous."

"[It] feels like the perfect feathered nest," added the Aerosmith singer. "It's being a part of something much bigger than yourself. I want to bring some rock to this roller coaster."

Fox hasn't said anything and Steven Tyler himself remains mum.

But Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton has confirmed to The Newark Star-Ledger that his band's frontman has officially signed on as an American Idol judge.

"Steven is doing American Idol. The ink is dry on that," said Hamilton. "We'll have to work around his schedule for a new record. I hope it doesn't hurt the new momentum we've built up on this tour, because that's been so important for us as a band. But I wouldn't want to be the one standing in the way of this for him."

Hamilton added that millions of people will "see another side" to the iconic singer, describing Tyler as "witty and entertaining."

With the Aerosmith legend on board, producers must now decide the fate of Kara DioGuardi. Sources say Jennifer Lopez might still be a candidate, despite reports that she demanded too high of a salary for the job.

We're still pushing for Jessica Simpson because, let's face it, who would not tune in each week to watch her at the judging table? She'd made Paula Abdul look intelligent and insightful!

American Idol is apparently cleaning house.

Talk of who will fill Simon Cowell's vacant seat on the hit show's panel now shifts to who will replace the other two departing judges: Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi will not be returning next season either, according to reports.

DeGeneres, who joined the show in its ninth season earlier this year, confirmed in a statement that she told Fox it "didn’t feel like the right fit for me.”

“I told them I wouldn’t leave them in a bind and would hold off until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next," she said. "It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for.”

The class act added: “I loved the experience working on Idol, am very grateful for the year I had, am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.”

In the same statement, American Idol creator and executive producer Simon Fuller says, “I loved Ellen’s passion for the artists and her nurturing skills. She brought honesty and optimism to our judging panel and I will miss her greatly."

Next year's American Idol roster will look a lot different.

But here's where it gets interesting: TMZ reports that Kara DioGuardi has been fired from the program, which will return to a three-judge format.

Fox has not acknowledged Kara's departure in a statement, but it appears it's all but official. That leaves Randy Jackson as the last man standing.

The show will reportedly be going back to a three-judge panel of Randy and a couple of high-profile newcomers: Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

This so-called "nuclear option" of blowing up nearly the entire panel has been kicked around for months, but nevertheless comes as a surprise.

Stars ranging from Harry Connick, Jr., to Bret Michaels, Chris Isaak and even Jessica Simpson have been rumored to be negotiating for the job.

Looks like J. Lo and the Aerosmith frontman won out.

The only way Kara could be asked back would be if the Lopez deal fell apart, but TMZ's sources claim it is already a done deal. Crazy stuff!

According to reports, Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler has entered a rehab facility for pain management and an addiction to prescription painkillers.

Is he taking a cue from Tiger Woods? No, the 61-year-old rocker is just feeling the collective pain resulting from 10 years of performance injuries.

The most recent of which? A fall from the stage in August.

"With the help of my family and team of medical professionals, I am taking responsibility for the management of my pain," Tyler said in a statement.

"I love Aerosmith; I love performing. I am grateful for all of the support and love I am receiving and am committed to getting things taken care of."

Steven Tyler is getting help for painkiller addiction.

"I am eager to be back on the stage and in the recording studio with my bandmates Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford."

His daughter, Liv Tyler says, "My family and I are in complete support of my dad's decision to seek treatment. He is a deeply courageous man."

"We love him and are so proud that he is getting help to balance his pain management, not just for himself but for his family, friends and fans."

Here's wishing Steve a prompt, successful recovery.

Following its lead singer's serious fall off stage at a South Dakota show, Aerosmith just announced the cancellation of the remainder of their tour:

"In his current condition, Tyler is unable to tour and the band wants to give him time to get healthy," reads the statement from the rockers.

"Words can't express the sadness I feel for having to cancel this tour,” says guitarist Joe Perry. "I would like to thank our loyal fans for sticking by us through thick and thin. We hope we can get the Aerosmith machine up and running again soon."

Meanwhile, Steven Tyler has issued his first public comments on the fall:

"We were in the middle of "Love in an Elevator," Tyler said, "and the band slowly realized something was up. Well, I wasn't gonna go hide under the big top and play ROCK STAR and wait for everything to be fixed.

"I wanted to go out to the crowd to continue the show... so, the Train Kept A- Rollin' and I ran out on the cat walk and grabbed my mic to finish the song. I was doing the Tyler shuffle and then I zigged when I should have zagged... AND I slipped."

"As I live on the edge... I fell off the edge!

"I landed upside down, and after twenty stitches on the back of my head, and a broken left shoulder, I just want to say that I'm plain grateful that I didn't break my neck! In truth, after thousands of live shows, falling off the edge four times ain't too bad."

Steven Tyler Falls Off Stage

A week after Steven Tyler fell off the stage at a South Dakota concert and had to be airlifted to a local hospital, the Aerosmith front man has been the subject of death rumors, mystery and speculation surrounding his condition.

A concert spokesman said Tyler, 61, suffered minor head, neck and shoulder injuries, but his condition is unclear, as is whether they will resume touring.

Lead guitarist Joe Perry hasn't spoken with Tyler since the fall, but, said "I've seen him fall off a stage more than once. I've fallen off ... Stuff happens."

According to Perry, the frontman cracked his shoulder blade in two places.

"No concussion. Nothing internal," he told Detroit's WXRX 104.9 FM. "So it's like he [was] in a bad bar fight. [Like] somebody had a baseball bat."

Just like that.

As for Steven Tyler's prognosis, Perry told the station, "They're still running tests. MRIs, everything, X rays. I really don't know what's going on."

Though Perry said Tyler is "gonna be sore for a while," he seems confident this is not the end for Aerosmith. "Inevitably, we always come back."

Steven Tyler, the legendary Aerosmith frontman, was rushed to a hospital last night after falling from stage during a concert in South Dakota.

The 61-year-old took a spill while entertaining the crowd by dancing around after the sound system failed during the song "Love In an Elevator."

Mike Sanborn, spokesman for the Buffalo Chip Campground, which hosted the concert, said Steven Tyler was on the stage's catwalk when he fell.

Security rushed to help him and the crowd cheered when Tyler got back up.

"He was good natured about it," Sanborn said. "He was in good spirits when he got in the helicopter. He was talking and joking with the physician."

"It was an unfortunate end to an extraordinary evening."

Steven Tyler suffered minor head and neck injuries and a shoulder injury, but it wasn't immediately clear how serious that was, officials say.

Around 12:15 a.m., Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry told the audience that Steven Tyler was being taken to the hospital and that the show would not go on.

It happened about halfway through the performance.

"He does a lot of dancing on the stage, a lot of stuff with his mike stand. He put his stand down, twirled around and stepped backwards off the stage," he said.

Sanborn said that post-fall, Tyler was attended to on site by a physician and flown to Rapid City Regional Hospital, the only major hospital in the region.

Forget making love in an elevator for a minute, Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler has more pressing matters on his mind:

He's been secretly battling hepatitis C, a serious viral infection of the blood, often associated with used needles, the New York Daily News reports.

In an Access Hollywood interview airing tomorrow night, Tyler, 58, admits that he was diagnosed three years ago, but "I've had hepatitis C for a long time, asymptomatic."

"I've been pretty quiet about this," says the admitted former drug addict. "The band took a break about three years ago. … [My doctor] said now is the time, and it's 11 months of chemotherapy" - actually, interferon, which strengthens the immune system - "so I went on that, and it about killed me."

Tyler is doing better now, though - and still looking healthier than Kate Bosworth.

As Tyler underwent interferon therapy, his marriage of 18 years to fashion designer Teresa Barrick suffered. The couple, who have two children, divorced earlier this year.

"I had a little problem at home, to say the least," he says, "and I would run upstairs at night, you know, to put the kids asleep and wake up at 3 in the morning with a nosebleed - you know, just passed out from the interferon, the treatment. It's a shot and pills and all of that. But the good news is I stood the test of time."

About 4.5 million Americans suffer from hepatitis C, which can cause lead to scarring and cirrhosis of the liver. Pamela Anderson is one of them.

And the Aerosmith front man wants to warn the public about such a disease.

"It's the silent killer," Tyler says. "I may go on Oprah and talk about this."
