Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are still going strong, as the couple were spotted out just last night on a date in Los Angeles.

But the 19-year old singer has called it quits with the other steady presence in her life, telling Facebook followers over the weekend that she and backup band The Scene won't be playing together for a bit.

Selena Gomez in Rio de Janeiro

"My band and I are going our separate ways for a while," Selena wrote. "This year is all about films and acting and I want my band to play music wherever with whoever. We will be back but, it will be a good while. I love them and I love you guys."

Gomez and The Scene released "When the Sun Goes Down" last year, an album that peaked at number-three on the Billboard 200 chart.

But it's true that Selena's film career is taking off: she'll voice a character in Adam Sandler's animated Hotel Transylvania later this year; and then star alongside James Franco and Vanessa Hudgens in Spring Breakers, a movie about a group of college girls who take over a fast-food joint in order to finance their Florida spring break.

It's unofficial, but Selena Gomez may have put on the very first live performance of 2012. At least in the Eastern Time Zone.

Very soon after confetti dropped on top of over one million party-goers in Times Square, this 19-year old sensation took to the stage inside MTV's New York City headquarters and belted out a version of "Love You Like a Love Song." Watch her in action now:

Gomez was far from the only performer to play a fun role on New Year's Eve. She was joined in the same location by her boyfriend, in fact, who is included in the following list of performances from last night:

Happy 2012 to all!

Selena Gomez appeared on Ellen last week and was understandably uncomfortable when asked about Mariah Yeater's accusation of baby fathering against her boyfriend.

But Gomez clearly felt right at home later on the episode, as she and her band performed "Love You Like a Love Song" for the excited studio audience. Watch now:

The young artist - who has sold an incredible five million copies of her album this year - went on to perform with Taylor Swift at Madison Square Garden and to make a major announcement: she's gonna be a big sister!

We're so very excited for Selena and her family.

Selena Gomez is a lot more than Justin Bieber's girlfriend.

Yes, the young artist gets to go on fantasy dates with the world's most famous 17-year old, but she also has an incredibly successful career of her own.

And she'll take another step forward with it via "Hit the Lights," Selena's upcoming new single off "When the Sun Goes Down." Look for it on the radio any day now and for it to include a chord whose lyrics read:

Hit the lights
Let the music move you
Lose yourself tonight
Come alive
Let the moment take you
Lose control tonight

Selena Gomez can do many things well: sing, win awards, date Justin Bieber.

But the artist has been showing off another skill while on tour this summer: rapping!

In the following concert sneak peeks - one in North Carolina, one in Connecticut - Selena makes like Nicki Minaj and breaks out a bit of "Super Bass" for fans, as attendees go wild. Check it out for yourself and it's easy to understand why Justin sees in this singer. She's got mad skills (and abs).

Selena Gomez says shooting the video for "Love You Like a Love Song" was the "craziest thing I've ever done."

"Sometimes when you’re in love," she added, "there are things you can’t really explain and it doesn’t make sense. That’s how I feel when I’m in love.”

And it sounds very much like Selena is feeling exactly that with days, due to her relationship with a certain 17-year old singer. Without angering Beliebers any further, though, we'll simply present the official, full-length video of Gomez's latest single. Enjoy!

Selena also wants you to visit her on the set of the shoot. It was filmed over three days in Los Angeles and Malibu. Go behind the scenes with the artist below:

Selena Gomez was a busy young woman last night.

The 18-year old hosted the MuchMusic Video Awards, accepted a date from Justin Bieber, performed with her band The Scene and made like Lady Gaga (more on that below).

Having been hospitalized earlier in the week, forced to own up to her poor eating habits, Selena Gomez finally got some good news today:

The single "Who Says?" has gone platinum.

Gomez reacted on Twitter with enthusiasm: "Ahhhh yay! Yay! Yay! Who Says went platinum!!! Thank you!! YOU have every right to a beautiful life :)"

Way to go, Selena! Now, all ears turn to "Whiplash," another track off Selena Gomez & The Scene's upcoming album, "When The Sun Goes Down," which comes out June 28. Britney Spears actually co-wrote the song. Give it a listen now:
