Singer and actress Selena Gomez wants to take on new role: matchmaker!

The 16-year-old starlet is trying to set up her BFF, Taylor Swift.

Her target? Pal and fellow musician Jonathan Cook.

Her plan is already coming together. Gomez already introduced the country crooner and the Forever the Sickest Kids frontman via iChat - and it's working!

Calling Swift his "celebrity crush," Cook gushed: "She is gorgeous... She is an amazing songwriter, and I can relate to her not only as a musician but also as a writer."

"Plus, she seems so down-to-earth, I always root for her as a fan!"

We root for her too. Anyone who's seen Swift and T-Pain in their "thug story" video knows she has a sense of humor to match her considerable talent.

Selena Gomez, who is featured on the Forever the Sickest Kids' track "Whoa Oh," doesn't go easy on Jonathan Cook in the romance department.

"Selena suggests girls for me to date," Cook said, adding that as a caveat, "she has told me she has to approve of any girls that I date."

As for any reverse matchmaking opportunities he has planed?

"I've suggested that she date Shia LeBeouf," Cook said.

The young star has finally given fans something to talk about aside from those pesky rumors that she's dating Taylor Lautner.

Over the weekend, The Wizards of Waverly Place actress showed off a new, shorter, bob-like hairstyle at the Time for Heroes Celebrity Carnival in Los Angeles, an event that benefits the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

On her debut album: "It's what I've gone through with heartache, friendships, and things like that. I want my fans to know me a little bit better after they hear this record."

On Demi Lovato: "We're both surrounded by adults 24/7, and we have to act professional, but when we're together we can just be sixteen. We both go through a lot, so it's nice to know that no matter what, I'll always have her."

Amidst rumors that the young actress is dating Taylor Lautner, Gomez just posted a few thoughts about how opinions can change as one gets older.

"I remember when i was 12 telling my friends i would never ever wear dresses because i thought they were too prissy. Now I own more floral dresses than pants," Gomez writes. "Or how i hated mustard and gagged at the sight of it, now I will not touch a hotdog without it."

Okay, okay, get to the good stuff, Selena!

"I also said that I would never fall in love until i was much older to really understand the word....."

• According to Twilight co-star Elizabeth Reaser: "Kristen and Rob have amazing chemistry."
• Said Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke: "It's intense when you do such an intense project. Robert and Kristen are interested in each other, like a fascination."

If "fascination" and "interest" are all it takes to be dating someone, then our entire staff would be going steady with Megan Fox!

As for another rumored pairing that every tween in America is excited over, the magazine offers slightly better support that Taylor Lautner and Selena Gomez are a couple.

On May 4, the duo ate together at a restaurant in Vancouver. According to a witness:

"Taylor walked Selena back to her hotel afterward. When she didn't think anyone was around, she wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a big kiss!"

The next day, Lautner and Gomez allegedly ate at a Japanese restaurant. As the cuties dined on sushi and drank iced tea, an anonymous onlooker heard Taylor say to Selena: "You smell good - I always smell you. I smelled you on my pillow this morning."

"I'm a big Twilight fan though," the actress said. "I'm a big Robert Pattinson fan, which I know if I met Taylor, he would not be a fan of me not saying he's my favorite, but I really do love Rob."

The tween world is abuzz this week with talk that Taylor Lautner has been spotted getting cozy in Vancouver Selena Gomez.

Lautner, who is best known for playing Jacob Black in the Twilight franchise, has been shooting New Moon in that city over the last month. Gomez, meanwhile, is in town for Ramona and Beezus, a big screen adaption of a popular book series.

According to E! News, the young twosome went to Caffe Artigiano last week for a coffee date.

"They were very low-key and kept to themselves," a witness said. "Nobody bothered them."

Another source said the burgeoning lovers also had dinner at a local restaurant, Old Spaghetti Factory, over the weekend.
