Sarah Palin earned the nickname Sarah Barracuda for her gritty play on the basketball court, not in the political arena - though the quality served her well there as well.

It's no surprise, then, that she's name-dropping popular figures of the moment to stay relevant rooting for another hard-working point guard, New York's Jeremy Lin.

On Fox Business Network yesterday, the ex-Alaska governor flashed a Lin t-shirt and raved about his performance. “All of a sudden, our team is the Knicks,” Palin said.

“Linsanity, man,” she raved. Well put.

“I mean, talk about an all-American story where sort of the underdog, you know, but works so hard, just erased all the stuff out there on the periphery in his life."

"Humble, and now look where he is.”

Look where Sarah Palin is too. Four years ago, on the cusp of being the first woman V.P. of the U.S. Now spouting vapid nonsense people have long since tuned out.

A true riches to rags story if ever there were one.

Sarah Palin's husband, Todd, denounced Joe McGinniss' new book about Alaska's most famous family as "disgusting lies, innuendo and smears" in a statement.

The former governor's camp is looking to discredit the biography - a racy, detailed, provocative tell-all, even as Palin gossip goes - which is due out next week.

Todd Palin slammed The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin, specifically denying that his business partner Brad Hanson had an affair with his wife.

The part about Glen Rice nailing Sarah Palin, sadly, went unmentioned by Todd.

Todd Palin wrote of McGinniss:

"This is a man who has been relentlessly stalking my family to the point of moving in next door to harass and spy on us to satisfy his creepy obsession with my wife."

"His book is full of disgusting lies, innuendo and smears. Even The New York Times called this book 'dated, petty,' and that it 'chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip.'"

Hang on ... the Palins read The New York Times?

A new tell-all book about former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin claims she had a one-night stand with former NBA star Glen Rice way back in 1987.

Is that true? Does it matter? The answer to both is highly debatable. Is this the greatest rumor of all time? To that, we might have to answer yes.

At the time, she was single and working at a TV station as a sports reporter; Rice was a college basketball star visiting Alaska for a tournament.

Sarah Palin and Glen Rice

Glen Rice scored 18,336 career points and won a title with the '00 Lakers. If he scored with Sarah Palin, he wins the title of Most Randomly Hysterical One-Night Stand.

Factual or not, Palin's alleged romantic encounter with Rice - some three years younger and then a junior in college - is causing serious, hilarious buzz.

Neither could not be reached for comment about the sexy fling, although Rice is said to have confirmed it to author Joe McGinniss. So ... yeah.

The hookup is said to have occurred after the '87 Great Alaska Shootout.

Glen was playing for the University of Michigan then. Palin apparently covered the event, only to be covered by Rice's naked body shortly thereafter.

Not unlike when she ran for V.P., Sarah Palin finished second this weekend in an Iowa half-marathon. Unlike the '08 election, though, second place is impressive!

Conveniently vague on whether she's running for president, basking in attention without having to do any real campaigning, she was fully committed to this run.

She finished second among women 40-49 with a respectable time of 1:46.10 in the Storm Lake, Iowa, event. That's just over eight minutes a mile for 13 miles!

Palin Runs

Sarah Palin actually did some legwork!

A tweet from Palin mentioned the run: “Thank you, Storm Lake, Iowa. You put on a great event & we loved meeting some great folks in your beautiful town today!”

She did not announce her intention to run prior to the event, though, and competed under her maiden name, Sarah Heath, listing her residence as Des Moines.

As for whether she'll run for the White House: Should she?
