As recently as this spring, Ryan Phillippe said he was still sad over his divorce from Reese Witherspoon.

But the actor has taken the high, mature road when it comes to his ex-wife's recent engagement, telling The New York Daily News:

"I'm very happy for both Reese and Jim. I wish nothing but the best for the mother of my children."

Phillippe and Witherspoon have two children together.

They divorced in 2008 amidst rumors that he cheated on her with Abbie Cornish, with whom Ryan then carried on a relationship for many months. He's now single.

Ryan Phillippe is pissed at the media. And in what arena is the actor taking out those frustrations?

Reese Witherspoon's ex-husband is featured in the latest issue of Men's Health and will host Saturday Night Live this weekend. He opened up to the magazine about his divorce.

"I still have sadness and complicated feelings about my divorce," he says. "But how beneficial is it to keep hanging onto those feelings?”

Ryan Phillippe is sick of the press referring to him as a jerk.

This may be a crazy thought, but perhaps the jerk of an actor should have thought of that before he cheated on Reese Witherspoon.

Phillippe actually shared this thought with Howard Stern after a rep for Abbie Cornish announced that his client and the Stop-Loss star had broken up in February.

The actor's beef? He and Cornish privately ended their four-year relationship face-to-face, so why the get the press involved: "Who announces a breakup?" he asked. "I don't understand that! There's no need for that."

Note to Phillippe: you're a public figure. Get over it.

Phillippe continued to rant to the radio host.

"I'm tired of getting s-it on," he said. "I don't feel like I deserve it. Things happen! How many people have you broken up with over your life?"

How many A-list, Oscar-winning actresses - with whom we've borne two children - have we cheated on with another young starlet, you mean? Zero, thanks for asking.

Moreover, who is crapping on Ryan Phillippe?!? The guy is hosting Saturday Night Live this week. He's worked steadily for years. Sounds to us like the actor is throwing himself an attention-grabbing pity party. Don't RSVP, readers!

In closing, Phillippe said he and Witherspoon, who share joint custody of their kids, have mended all fences: "It's gotten to a place where we're great friends and great co-parents."

That's great. Now stop whining, dude.

This much we know: Ryan Phillippe and Abbie Cornish have broken up.

This much is still unclear: which side ended the relationship?

Initial reports indicated that Cornish finally realized she was dating a cheater whose real-life personality isn't all that different from his character in Cruel Intentions.

“Abbie has always questioned Ryan’s loyalty. How could she not? When she began dating him he was married, she’s a smart girl," a source told OK! Weekly. "She knows men don’t change, she hoped he would, but she always knew deep down this wasn’t forever.”

HOWEVER, a friend of Ryan's says otherwise. This insider told Hollywoodlife.com that Phillippe was the one who called it quits.

“Ryan ended the relationship recently while she was in Australia. He asked her to remove her belongings from his house, which she did this weekend," the source said.

He supposedly cheated to get her, and now Ryan Phillippe may have cheated and lost her.

After a three-year relationship that started when the actor cheated on wife Reese Witherspoon with Abbie Cornish, the latter has finally come to her senses and dumped Phillippe.

"Abbie ended the relationship with Ryan and she moved out of their home," her rep told People.

The break-up takes place after months of celebrity gossip rumors made Phillippe sound like the Tiger Woods of acting, minus the talent. He's been spotted with other women at nightclubs around the globe.

Asked about the cause of the split, Cornish's rep took the high road and said: "No comment."

Cornish has been in Vancouver for the last seven months shooting a movie whose title could well sum up the demise of her relationship: Sucker Punch.

** UPDATE: A friend of Phillippe's defends the actor. He told us:

“Ryan ended the relationship recently while she was in Australia and asked her to come and remove her items from his residence... She was gone for seven months in production and they basically grew apart. They’d broken up a few times prior. There was no cheating or roving eyes.”

Australian actress Abbie Cornish first rose to prominence as a co-star in a real-life domestic drama involving then-married Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon.

Cornish, 27, and Phillippe, 34, met on the set of the movie Stop-Loss, and today they share a home in L.A. – "where it was love that brought me here, not work."

"I think the city feels and looks a little bit different because of that.”

Reese Witherspoon has publicly called divorce humiliating and isolating, Cornish tells W Magazine, saying that she was "cast as the culprit." As a result, she's looking back on the period when the spotlight fell on her as "a really difficult time."

Out of nowhere, the actress reflects, she was forced to enter a realm of paparazzi and celebrity gossip coverage "that I had never been exposed to. In a normal successful career, someone usually learns these things bit by bit."

"For me, it was like night and day," Abbie Cornish continued. "I woke up one day and there was this whole new thing I had to process and deal with."

Since then, Abbie has moved in with Phillippe and spends time with his and Reese's children: Ava, 9, and Deacon, 5. Glad to hear it worked out!

There is no question that Ryan Phillippe is a crazy person.

Most of us knew Ryan was a little nuts when he cheated on the beautiful Reese Witherspoon, but he really wanted to show us just how crazy he was at his son's t-ball game this Saturday.

In the middle of the baseball game, Phillippe decided we was going to scare the crap out of everyone there; so, out of nowhere, he turned and sprinted into the stands at a man who was taking pictures.

Everyone from parents to kids were confused and scared, as they sat and watched Phillippe unleash his antics.

Then, as if he didn't already look psychotic enough, he turned around and started skipping away. At least you didn't make a fool out of yourself. Oh wait.

Pornish is officially a couple.

After months of denying any sort of affair with Abbie Cornish, Ryan Phillippe is no longer afraid to go public with the Australian actress. Or to visit her family for special occasions.

Phillippe will reportedly spend Christmas with Cornish’s loved ones in Sydney, as the rising star says she's excited to bring her boyfriend home for the holidays.

"It's wonderful!" Cornish told reporters earlier this week.

Phillippe's children will spend Christmas with mother Reese Witherspoon and her boyfriend, Jake Gyllenhaal.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel they are not.

But while Ryan Phillippe and Abbie Cornish are far from beloved in Hollywood - that's what happens when you cheat on Reese Witherspoon, Ryan - they have at least one supporter.

"They're great," Rob Brown, Phillippe's friend and castmate in last spring's Stop-Loss, told People Magazine. "I was with them last night. They're good people."

Despite the fact that his cheating supposedly caused it, Phillippe has referred to his divorce from Witherspoon as "the darkest, saddest place I had ever been." But Brown added that his pal has moved on.

"He's alright," Brown said. "He's in good spirits and he seems happy. And I'm happy for him."
