David Letterman may not have a clue who he's talking to these days, but that can make for some funny exchanges, as we saw last night with Ryan Lochte.

While slightly more restrained than the Philly anchors who LOST IT after interviewing the Olympic swimmer, Dave seemed baffled by the same thing:

Why does Ryan Lochte have a reality show again?

It's a fair question, and the What Would Ryan Lochte Do? star attempts to explain it as best as you can hope from a man (and show) of such substance.

Watch a portion of their exchange below:

You have to watch the anchors of Good Day Philly break down in tears - laughing - three seconds after completing an interview with Olympian Ryan Lochte.

Ryan came on the show to promote his new reality show, What Would Ryan Lochte Do? Apparently Ryan doesn't do TV interviews, that's for sure.

Check out the end of this one - and the anchors' reactions:

You know it's bad when you zone out live on camera, as if your mind is somewhere else (or just absent) ... and then when you do talk, it may be worse.

But hey, the man can swim a 400-meter individual medley, and "if you're the man at night, you gotta be a man in the morning" is a mantra to live by.

Whatever that means.

Swimming champion Ryan Lochte covers ESPN the Magazine's forthcoming music issue, and in doing so recreates Nirvana's seminal 1991 album Nevermind.

Smells like ... Olympic team spirit?

Ryan Lochte Nirvana

Of course, unlike the baby boy grasping for the dollar bill in the grunge rock band's iconic photo, Ryan didn't actually go completely nude for ESPN.

Don't worry ladies, the hunk's not going anywhere, There's always hope on E! Ryan Lochte reality show, What Would Ryan Lochte Do? Seriously.

For comparison, or for those of you too young to even know what the heck he's doing an impression of here, check out the Nevermind cover below:

Seth MacFarlane impersonated Ryan Lochte on Saturday Night Live's “Weekend Update” segment two nights ago, giving Seth Myers a preview of fall TV shows.

The Family Guy and Ted movie creator just eviscerated the Olympic champion, portraying Lochte as a dumb jock with lines such as “I was America in Olympics.”

"Ryan" referred to Matthew Perry's new show Go On as "Goon" (he didn't realize it was two words) and kept calling Animal Practice “Monkey Hospital.” #JEAH!

The kicker? At one point he randomly says, "It feels so weird to be dry."

Ryan Lochte and his abs are coming to the CW.

The 11-time Olympic medalist will guest star on 90210's upcoming Season 5 in a pivotal role as ... Ryan Lochte, who's apparently a guest at the resort where Naomi and Max are staying in an attempt to strengthen their relationship.

A far cry from the next Bachelor, but hey.

Hot Ryan Lochte Pic

The 28-year-old, who made his "acting" debut with a Funny or Die video breakdown of peeing in pools, has shown definite interest in the entertainment world.

Will the swimming great build upon this 90210 appearance or will Ryan quickly fade now that the 2012 London Olympics are over? That remains to be seen.

In any case, he's indicated he will try to extend his amazing career through the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, so expect him back in the pool before long.

After teaming up for a pair of medal-winning relay swims this week, Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte squared off today in the 200-meter individual medley final.

The Americans were co-favorites, with Phelps having owned the event in the last two Olympics, but Lochte annihilating the field in the 400-meter IM this year.

Not surprisingly, one took gold and one silver today ... but who won?

  • Ryan Lochte Swimming
  • Michael Phelps Swimming

Michael Phelps! The most-decorated Olympian ever took home the gold in 1:54.27, just 0.27 off the world record and 0.04 off the Olympic record.

Ryan Lochte won the silver medal, 0.63 back.

Hungary's Laszlo Cseh fell away through three legs but earned the bronze. Brazil's Thiago Pereira was actually second after the breaststroke leg.

The medal was Phelps' 16th gold and record 20th overall, while Lochte reached double digits in career medals, earning #10 with the silver.

He probably won't hear from President Obama this time, but Michael Phelps' mom was definitely psyched as he continues to cement his legacy

Way to go, both of you guys! U-S-A! U-S-A!

Well, this is no fun.

Billed as the biggest individual rivalry at the 2012 Summer Olympics, Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte are being all... classy with each other. Don't they know this is a competition?!?

Lochte Wins

Not long after Lochte won the Gold Medal in the 400 IM today, Phelps - who did not finish in the top three in that event for the first time since 2000 - sent a congratulatory Tweet to his countryman, writing:

Congrats to @ryanlochte ... Way to keep that title in the country where it belongs!!

The winner then replied: Thanks @MichaelPhelps I couldn't do it with out you. #USA

Phelps has six more events in front of him and needs two medals to set the all-time Olympic mark. But this race belonged to his rival.

“This is my year,” Lochte said after earning Gold. “I know it and I feel it, because I’ve put in hard work. I’ve trained my butt off for four years … and there’s no better way to start this Olympics off than getting gold.”

Let's try to fire up this feud, shall we? Vote now: Michael Phelps or Ryan Lochte, who would you rather...
