Ryan Gosling could've been Christian Grey if he had any interest, but turned down the steamy Fifty Shades of Grey movie role, a new report says.
While earlier reports suggested that author EL James wanted Robert Pattinson for the role, Gosling, 32, was the original choice for Universal Studios.
Gosling was heavily courted, only to reject the role may fans wanted to see him in. Ryan, Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer were all fan favorites.
Universal's second choice Garrett Hedlund, 29, reportedly gave it a chance, but "couldn't connect with the character" and pulled out of the running in July.
Eventually, the studio settled on Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson as his love interest Ana Steele, two casting moves that were widely panned by fans.
