Katy Perry has been following a "(Last Friday Night) T.G.I.F." strategy in coping with her divorce from Russell Brand, but also is very distraught, according to reports.

The two are very likely related.

While in Kauai over the holidays to kick back and let the storm blow over back home, our beloved, newly-single "California Gurl" apparently spent little time relaxing.

"Katy partied the entire time she was in Kauai," dished an eyewitness.

Let's be clear: We are not judging or criticizing Katy for going out in the wake of the split as she figures out the next stage in her life. That's just what's happening.

In fact, the witness claims Perry seemed "very distraught over the breakup."

That makes two of them. Russell Brand sources that even though he's been doing his share of flirting these days as well, he, too, "is very sad."

A reconciliation is not on the table, though, according to insiders.

This seems like a case of two people who really wanted to make it work, and are sad it didn't, but Katy Perry and Russell Brand are just too different.

Hardly.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand clearly had their share of problems, but his craziness was not one of them, despite what certain reports would have you believe.

On the contrary: If anything, the 36-year-old Brand, who has been sober seven years, may have been too much of a homebody for social butterfly Katy, 28.

According to sources close to the couple, they tried to make it work, but were just too different and parted amicably. Sad, but nothing like this portrayal:

Nor did he blindside her with the divorce, as the above cover says. Russell Brand filed for divorce instead of Katy because of her family's religious beliefs.

As for explosive fights, that's news to people close to the couple.

"I was shocked when I found out," a source told People. "I thought they would be together for a long time. Maybe not forever – but definitely not just 14 months."

"They were always laughing," the source went on to say. "They were very affectionate, always holding hands. They seemed like they were really in love."

Another source who spent time with Brand and Perry said that despite the split, they "took marriage very seriously ... these aren't people who give up."

Long and short: It just didn't work out. But that doesn't make it scandalous.

Katy Perry's divorce from Russell Brand wasn't due to a particular event or issue. The pair simply got married too fast and are too different, sources say.

They were infatuated with each other when they wed in October 2010, but had only been together about a year at that point, and things went south fast.

Brand, who filed for divorce Friday, is more of a homebody than Katy, 27, who loves going out partying. Russell, 36, has been sober for years and didn't enjoy the scene.

He would often voice his desire to stay in or leave places early, asking her to come with him, which would trigger arguments. So it went. Not a long-term match.

At the end of the day, neither hates the other, there's no bad blood, and not even a hint of impropriety on either part. Just a mutual parting of ways.

The divorce of Katy Perry and Russell Brand was months in the making, and the pop star was NOT blindsided by the actor/comedian's filing, reports say.

They decided Brand would file the court papers in the divorce because she didn't want to upset her religious parents, sources close to the couple indicate.

Katy and Russell knew the relationship was on the rocks months ago, but didn't want to bail on the marriage without a concerted effort to work it out.

Sadly, both sides ultimately felt "it just wasn't there."

Katy and Russell were on board with the divorce weeks ago - there was no massive fight that triggered the split - but didn't want to be in L.A. when the papers were filed.

Thus, he went back to England and she went to Hawaii for Christmas.

Fans of Katy know her parents are evangelical Christians, who raised her to believe that divorce is morally wrong. Out of respect to Katy and her family, Russell was the one to officially file; It's unclear how or when Katy will legally respond.

Brand released a statement confirming the split but insisting the two will always love each other and remain friends. Here's hoping that's true, but don't bet on a reconciliation.

The Internet may be a "wicked little liar," to use Russell Brand's words, a great deal of the time. But apparently not in this sad case. He's divorcing Katy Perry.

Just 24 hours after Russell was spotted sans wedding ring in London, with Katy 7,000 miles away with friends in Hawaii, the actor filed the papers this afternoon.

Brand personally confirmed the news, saying in a statement: "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

Brand cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split in the official divorce documents, filed in Los Angeles Friday. The couple married October 23, 2010.

The documents list "community property assets," which may indicate a lack of prenup, or one that does not account for all their earnings and other assets.

The news is surprising and yet not, given recent reports that the couple had been having problems and spending time apart, possibly following a massive fight.

He does not list a date the couple separated, but TMZ reports that Russell Brand may have blindsided Katy Perry by filing the divorce petition. Stay tuned.

No, seriously, it's bad. So much so that the spouses of a little more than one year parted on expletive terms and spent the holidays 7,000 miles apart.

After planning to fly her family via private jet to husband Brand's London hometown for the holidays, Perry changed course, opting to fly to Hawaii.

The reason? "They had a massive fight," an insider says. "She was like, 'F--k you. I'm going to do my own thing.' Russell replied, 'Fine, f--k you too.'"

Which explains why, come December 25, the record-setting singer was seen splashing in the Pacific Ocean off the island of Kauai sans wedding ring.

Meanwhile, Brand was catching up with some pals in a pub in chilly Coverack, Cornwall, without his ring on either. They're definitely having problems.

"They haven't split up just yet, but things aren't good," acknowledged the source, adding that the divorce rumors are untrue, but rooted in reality.

"The fighting is getting worse."

At issue? Among other things, explains another source: "Katy doesn't think that Russell respects her parents' Christian beliefs or her friends."

This does not sound good.

As we know, the rumor mill has been swirling in recent months with speculation that things aren't going well between Katy Perry and Russell Brand.

Looks like it may not be just rumors.

A source confirms to E! that Katy and Russell have been "having problems" and that they've been spending "a lot of time apart," including Christmas.

The "Teenage Dream" singer was spotted swimming in Hawaii over the holiday with her friends, while Russell was reportedly in England for the weekend.

Perry and Brand wed in India in October of last year.

A source adds that things began getting more and more tense between the two in early December and that Katy Perry has been "a mess" about it at times.

The couple shrugged off the divorce rumors at the time, but clearly there's trouble in paradise. Can they work it out? We can only hope for their sake.

If Twitter had its way, Katy Perry would have been pregnant and divorced several times by now, so why did the latest rumor of her impending split with Russell Brand gain traction? Several outlets running with the supposed impending split as fact, for one.

Most outlets that repeated the rumor seemed to credit none other than celebrity gossip kingpin TMZ with the supposed scoop, claiming that the site posted, and then quickly removed, a story claiming that divorce was nigh between the couple.

However, TMZ chief Harvey Levin, took to Twitter himself to shoot that down.

"A news outlet saying TMZ posted a story Katy Perry is getting divorced," he tweeted. "We did not post such a story ... just made a call ... 100% NO DIVORCE."

Phew. Unlike Twitter trends, if Harvey says it on Twitter, we believe it.

Russell Brand might want to place a quick call to customs next time he plans on traveling internationally. The crazy comic/actor found out he's BANNED from Canada!

Russell was denied entry for unknown, but still easily imaginable reasons.

You may recall that Russell was deported from Japan back in May while trying to visit with his wife, Katy Perry, who was touring the Pacific nation.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry have been subjected to headlines about their supposed trouble in paradise recently ... heck, since the day they got married.

But in the wake of the most recent groundswell of speculation - Russell reportedly cavorting with brunettes not named Katy - the couple is fighting back.

"Just cause we don't flaunt our relationship doesn't mean there's something wrong," Katy wrote. "Privacy is our luxury. #tabloidsrtrash #gossipisgross"

Russell echoed his wife's sentiments and cheered her Tweets.

This time around, it was the Daily Mail (UK) and the British weekly magazine Heat that took the lead on spearheading the newest round of reports.

While the Daily Mail reported Brand was seen with a "Katy Perry lookalike," it's Heat that went a step too far, saying they're on "a trial separation."

Citing unnamed sources (obvi), the rag blamed conflicting work schedules and said they've seen each other four days in the past six months.

Perry is far from pleased. Just recently, her legal team hit back at NW, an Australian tabloid, for claiming that she was unfaithful to Brand.
