The Biggest Loser kicked off its 15th season last night with its biggest contestant to date.

Not literally. Though not that far from it, either.

Former American Idol champion Ruben Studdard became the show's first-ever celebrity competitor, but the Alabama native isn't appearing on the series as any kind of publicity stunt: the singer's weight recently ballooned to 462 pounds.

"I just want to be Ruben Studdard. I’m tired of being ‘Big Ru,'" he told trainer Dolvett Quince of why he's joined the cast. "Since I was 11 years old, it’s always been B-I-G in front of my name. And my mama didn’t name me ‘Big.’”

American Idol winner Ruben Studdard has filed for divorce from Surata Zuri McCants, his wife of more than three years, according to reports.

The Velvet Teddy Bear filed the papers in his native Alabama citing the catch-all "irreconcilable differences" as the impetus for the breakup.

They have no children together.

A rep for Studdard did not elaborate on the reasons for the divorce, but did confirm that it's a go, saying, “Ruben and Zuri have gone their separate ways.”

Ruben won the second season of American Idol back in 2003, besting a young fella by the name of Clay Aiken to take the crown. Those were the days.

Season 11 kicks off in January on Fox.

As Crystal Bowersox and others battle it out on American Idol, a pair of show stalwarts announced exciting news for their fans last week:

Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken will tour together this summer.

The pair, who finished first and second on season two of TV's highest-rated show, will play in 17 cities, beginning July 23 in Ashville, North Carolina and concluding on August 14 in Biloxi, Mississippi. In between, other stops include:

  • Melbourne, Florida (July 25)
  • Los Angeles, California (August 1)
  • Lancaster, Pennsylvania (August 8)
  • New York City (August 11).

Said Aiken: "I couldn't ask for a better tour mate. To be able to share the stage with him again is so exciting. He is such a talented artist. He inspires me daily and I think that respect and admiration will truly be reflected in our show."

Love and babies are in the air for American Idol finalists from season two.

First, as previously reported, Clay Aiken lent his sperm to Jaymes Foster. They're gonna have a baby!

Now, we're excited to report that Ruben Studdard obtained a marriage license Monday in Alabama, setting the stage for his marriage to Surata Zuri McCants.

Said a witness who observed this couple fill out the paperwork: "They looked really happy."
