Future monarch Prince George, who celebrates his first birthday Tuesday, is seen looking at butterflies with fascination in two newly-released photos.

The youngest royal family member has his eyes set on the beautiful insect during an outing with his doting parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Prince George, Butterfly

The images were shot at the Sensational Butterflies exhibit at London's Natural History Museum by John Stillwell of the UK's Press Association wire service.

He also took the photo released Saturday of Prince George walking (running, some might say, as much as a toddler can do so) in his Petit Bateau overalls.

"He was fascinated to see the them fly but a little scared when they got a bit close to him," Stillwell says of the prince's encounter with the Blue Morpho butterfly.

Stillwell says he kept his distance and used a long lens so William and Kate, both 32, could relax and enjoy the peace at the exhibit with their son."

Prince George, a.k.a. the Royal Baby, a.k.a. HRH Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, is about to turn one. And what a year it has been!

This future heir, possessed of "a voice to match any lion’s roar," according to his dad, Prince William, is not the type to sit quietly and rest on his laurels.

He's the kind of baby who pops balloons, has no fear of strangers or animals, and goes HARD at play dates, holding court and running the show.

His current hobbies of choice? These days, says his mom, Duchess Kate Middleton, "he's most interested in helicopters and anything with wheels."

It's only fitting for a little guy who's always on the go.

As he comes upon his first birthday July 22, the young boy who will be king has already notched several milestones: smiles, belly rolls, babbles and steps.

Check out the video above for a look at some of George's first year's most memorable moments, and scroll through his life in pictures after the jump!

Needless to say, the royal family looks picture perfect.

Reporting on how the boy upended Prince William’s and Kate’s lives, Nicholl gives a behind-the-scenes look at George’s first year. Excerpts below ...

On George's appetite: While George behaved well in his first few public appearances, he often cried loudly and frequently, and did not sleep through the night.

The baby prince, still breastfeeding, was permanently hungry ... only in the new year, when Kate introduced solids, did George finally sleep through the night.

On their new nanny: Spanish-born Maria Teresa Turrion Borallo spent a week bonding with George at Kate’s family home in March [with] the Middleton grandparents.

Meanwhile, Will and Kate jetted off to the Maldives for a second honeymoon. They caught flak for leaving him behind, but on another occasion, did not ...

Pippa Middleton's Christening gift to royal baby Prince George is ... interesting. What did his aunt get him and will the young heir appreciate it in a few years?

Christening Gift

The younger sister of Kate Middleton reportedly purchased silver sculptures specifically crafted from the Prince of Cambridge’s baby hands and feet.

The keepsakes cost approximately $11,000. The pieces designed by Wrightson and Platt (above) are each custom designed in a small London facility.

In order to create the molds, Prince George would have had to have his little hands and feet placed in a jelly-like, organic mixture of water and powder.

The entire process only 30 seconds, so if the entire Prince George Christening went off without a hitch, the youngster likely endured that with no problem.

Young heir to the throne Prince George will be privately christened on October 23, when he is just over three months old, according to the royal family.

The venue holds special significance, as the Chapel Royal at St. James' Palace is where Princess Diana's coffin lay before her Westminster Abbey funeral.

Indeed, the BBC reports that the Henry VIII-built chapel is a very small space, which means the baptism will likely only be for close family and friends.

George's dad, Prince William, was christened at Buckingham Palace in 1982.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revered Justin Welby, will perform the christening of William and Kate Middleton's first-born child next month.

Kate Middleton's pregnancy certainly looked flawless, and apparently the actual experience of welcoming Prince George into the world wasn't far off.

In October's Vanity Fair, sources close to the Duchess of Cambridge reveal that her birth plan went exactly according to plan ... doesn't it figure?

Kate Middleton, Prince George Picture

"She spoke to some of her best girlfriends after the birth and described the birth as perfect," a source told Vanity Fair's longtime royal reporter Katie Nicholl.

"She said it was straightforward and there were no complications. She wanted a natural birth and she was so happy she was able to have one."

This on top of the fact that throughout her entire first pregnancy, Kate Middleton, 31, only looked pregnant from the front with a perfect baby bump.

Prince William says his son Prince George is already a bit of a royal rascal, while the baby's mother, Kate Middleton, is doing a fantastic job of it.

William told CNN in his first interview since becoming a dad that posing for the first Royal Baby photos the day after George's birth felt oddly logical.

"I was on such a high anyway, and so was Catherine about George, that really we were happy to show him off to whoever wanted to see him," he gushed.

"As any new parent knows, you’re only too happy to show off your new child and, you know, proclaim that he is the best looking or the best everything."

England's newest royal proved to be on his best behavior then, William pointed out: "I'm just glad he wasn’t screaming his head off the whole way through!"
