It hasn't been a great week for love in Hollywood.

Ariana Grande split from Jai Brooks because he wasn't supportive of her. Ramona Singer ended her marriage because her husband Mario was unfaithful.

Joe Jonas stopped giving it to Blanda Eggenschwiler. Chris Brown and Karrueche Tran ... we don't know what is going on there. But it appears to be over.

But at least all of the above take solace in the following: they aren't alone. Far from it, in fact, as a number of high-profile romances have already met their demise in 2014.

We're not taking sides. We're not judging the basis for these break-ups. We're just running down the celebrities who have found themselves single so far this year:

Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy got engaged in January and seemed to be on he verge of becoming a new power couple in the world of sports.

Today, however, McIlroy unexpectedly ended his relationship with the Danish tennis star, demonstrating that he's about as committed to the idea of marriage as another, more famous golfer.

Despite announcing the breakup this morning, McIlroy remarkably still appeared at a previously scheduled press conference today in advance of this week's BMW PGA Championship.

Reporters on hand say Rory McIlroy appeared to be on the verge of tears as he discussed his relationship with Caroline Wozniacki.

"Yeah, obviously quite a difficult time for Caroline and myself," said McIlroy.

"It was mutual and amicable and we both thought it was the best for us, the best for both of us. Time to move on and I think I've said all I need to say."

McIlroy's claim that the breakup was "mutual" conflicts with the description given earlier in the day by his communications team earlier in the official announcement of the canceled wedding:

Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki are getting married! The golfer popped the question to the tennis star on New Year's Eve and she said yes.

Quite the ring she got out of the deal, too ...

Caroline Wozniacki Engaged to Rory McIlroy

"Happy New Year everyone!" the two-time major champion Tweeted. "I have a feeling it's going to be a great year!! My first victory of 2014 #shesaidyes!!

So much for the duo being on the rocks.

Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy, collectively one of sports' higher-profile couples, have endured a lot of scrutiny since they first got together.

Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy are rumored to be on the rocks, and although she denies this, the report stemmed from a hilarious incident.

The Danish tennis star tweeted an embarrassing photo of her open-mouthed sleeping sweetheart, the Northern Irish golf champion, last month.

It led to reports that the famous pair have split. That doesn't appear to be the case, but you can see why Rory might not have been too thrilled:

Wozniacki addressed the "controversy" this week, saying, “I’m so tired of the rumors. They occur every time Rory and I are apart a few days or do not write on Twitter."

"There is nothing in it, and from now on I think I will keep my private life private. It is so annoying that the media and the so-called sources constantly spread rumors."

When Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy hit the driving range, more than skill levels will be off the charts. These two competitors play to win - and to let you know it!

Nike, which just signed McIlroy to a huge deal, created golf's version of the famous Bird-Jordan H-O-R-S-E ad, and it's one of the best sports commercials in awhile:

It also serves as the passing of the torch of sorts from longtime Nike pitchman Woods, 37, to McIlroy, 23, the current world No. 1 out of Northern Ireland.

McIlroy and Woods are on the range, hitting can-you-top-this golf shots and poking fun at one another as they perform one impossible feat after another.

Nike definitely has a new star to play with - and an older one with plenty left, as well.

The best in women's tennis and men's golf have come together away from the court and the course.

Caroline Wozniacki, the number-one ranked player on the WTA, and Rory McIlroy, the defending U.S. Open champion, were spotted at dinner in London Sunday night, days after the latter split with his girlfriend. Witnesses later spotted the athletic couple sharing a kiss.

Wozniacki could learn a lot from McIlroy, who has one more Major championship than his new, tall squeeze.

The 22-year old Irish star, meanwhile, is under incredible pressure these days. Many are already comparing him to Tiger Woods. Many golf experts, that is. Based on the bedroom pedigree of the 14-time Grand Slam winner, let's hope Wozniacki isn't doing the same.
