The body of Rodney King was discovered at the bottom of a pool by his fiancee last month, with the cause of death listed as "accidental drowning."

That may technically still be the case, but the official death report has come out and it's undeniable now that the man whose 1991 beating sparked riots in Los Angeles stumbled to his demise at the result of numerous substances in his body.

It's unclear if he jumped or fell into the water, according to the coroner, but King was "in a state of drug and alcohol induced delirium" at the time of his passing.

"The effects of the drugs and alcohol, combined with [King's preexisting heart condition] probably precipitated a cardiac arrhythmia and [King], thus incapacitated, was unable to save himself and drowned," reads the report, which adds that King was lying naked in the deep end of the pool by the time EMTs arrived.

Cynthia Kelly attempted to rescue her fiance with items such as a pitchfork, a hoe and a vacuum pool sweeper - all of which surrounded the area, the report confirms - because she considered herself a poor swimmer and was afraid of jumping in.

Los Angeles police remained outside the home of a counterculture icon Monday morning, one day after they found Rodney King dead in his swimming pool.

The victim of an apparent, accidental drowning, King - who shot to infamy after four LAPD officers brutally beat him in 1991 - was first found by his fiancee.

He had been outside his home most of the evening prior to his death, according to Kelly, who said King had also smoked marijuana earlier this weekend.

"[Kelly] was inside, had been sleeping and Mr. King had been carrying conversations with her from the rear patio," Rialto Police Captain Randy De Anda said.

"She had heard [Rodney King] speaking to her. She got up to go outside to talk with him, at which time she found him at the bottom of the pool."

Officials are awaiting toxicology results to confirm the accidental nature of the demise of King, who lived a troubled life before and after the 1991 incident.

Long before it became commonplace in the YouTube / social media age, a passing motorist happened to observe and film the infamous beating video.

King, who famously pleaded for blacks and whites to “get along” after the acquittal of the four white officers sparked massive riots in L.A., was 47.

Two decades later, many observers note the parallels between King and the Trayvon Martin case, which has renewed debate over racial profiling.

Funeral arrangements for King are pending.

Police in Rialto, Calif., received a 911 call from King's fiancee, Kelly, about 5:25 a.m., said Capt. Randy DeAnda. Responding officers discovered King at the bottom of the swimming pool, removed him and attempted to revive him.

King was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

There were no preliminary signs of foul play, DeAnda said, and no obvious injuries on Rodney's body. Reports say Kelly is telling friends that Rodney had been drinking a lot Saturday and had smoked marijuana hours before his death.

Police are conducting a full investigation.

"His fiancee heard him in the rear yard," he said, and found King, who lived a troubled life before and after the infamous attack, in the pool outside.

King's beating after a high-speed chase and its aftermath forever changed Los Angeles, its police department and the dialogue on race in America.
