The embattled wide receiver said that he's spoken with each of his teammates individually, asking them not to forgive him, but to judge him by his future.

"I talked to everyone individually," he said. "I told them, 'I don't want you to forgive me, because that puts the burden on you. I want it all on me.'"

"I told them that and I told them I apologize. They could tell it was from the heart, they know I'm not that kind of person. It feels good to have support."

Embattled wide receiver Riley Cooper has been excused from the Philadelphia Eagles indefinitely, citing a need for counseling and sensitivity training.

The move comes two days after a video from a Kenny Chesney concert showed Cooper using a racial slur toward an African-American security guard.

Cooper's lengthy apology was only the beginning for Cooper, as he was fined an undisclosed amount by the team and possibly more from the NFL.

The athlete said he intended to apologize later to his teammates, many of whom are African American, following a 7 p.m. walk-through practice.

"It's going to be very difficult for me. I'm going to tell them, 'I'm extremely sorry,' tell them exactly what I'm telling you guys," Cooper told the media.

"There was a confrontation and I handled it extremely, extremely poorly. This is kind of the lowest of lows. This isn't the type of person I want to be portrayed as."
