Former Spice Girls singer Mel C, a.k.a. Melanie Chisholm, is critical of Rihanna for being too sexual in her videos and on stage for her young fans.

Mel, who has a two-year-old daughter Scarlet with boyfriend Thomas Starr, has grown concerned about the musician's "inappropriate" imagery.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror (UK), she said:

  • Rihanna Cleave Action
  • Mel C Pic

"People have to take responsibility because we've got to a point where sexualization of children has gone too far. I think music is a big part of that. Women in music are extremely sexual and have young fans. It is inappropriate."

"Rihanna has a responsibility and although culture's always changing, it's changed too much. It needs to be dealt with. It's reached saturation point."

"We owe it to our kids to protect them."

Mel believes RiRi makes many of her X-rated artistic decisions - whipping reporters, dressing in next to nothing, her "S&M" video in general - because she isn't a mother herself. That's something she hopes will change one day.

Rihanna's latest single off of her most recent album, Loud, has been released. "Cheers (Drink To That)" offers up a toast to so many great things.

It also features an Avril Lavigne sample, complete with the star's vocals. It's a bit more mellow than her previous singles, but typically catchy.

Cheers? Jeers? Would you drink to that? Listen below and tell us:

Lady Gaga may be the highest-earning, top-selling and best-known woman in popular music today, but Rihanna has more "Likes" on Facebook.

This week, Rihanna accumulated enough Facebook fans to surpass Gaga and claim the throne as the platform's top ranking female celebrity.

According to their Facebook stats, as of Saturday, Rihanna had 40,699,853 likes, and Lady Gaga had 40,611,908, giving RiRi a slight lead.

Of course, Gaga has her by close to five million fans on Twitter, so Rihanna can't lay claim to being the queen of all social media just yet.

Shakira is the diva with the third most Facebook followers. Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Shakira hold the No. 5, 6, and 8 positions overall.

Three men make the top 10: Eminem (No. 3, 43,367,713 likes), Michael Jackson (No. 7, 38,069,882), and Justin Bieber (No. 10, 33,035,903).

In the August issue of Cosmopolitan (UK), Rihanna shares what she looks for in a guy, her stand on love and how she dealt with Chris Brown.

"I'm open to love. But guys should have to earn it. Because the minute they get it, they want something else," the singer tells the publication.

"Men are like hunters: they like the chase. So you have to keep 'em guessing. Actually, I'm like that too. I get bored quickly," she admits.

"So if someone can make me laugh, that's the best."

The "S&M" crooner notes that constantly being in the spotlight can dampen the chances of finding a guy who can hang tough with her lifestyle.

"It can definitely be intimidating to guys to date someone in this industry," RiRi, whose last long-term relationship was with Matt Kemp, says.

"It's really hard to find a guy who really doesn't care about that stuff. Right now, it's easier just having my career to focus on."

As for the Chris Brown incident ...

Last night at the BET Awards, some lucky fans were chosen to present the viewer's choice award. Some serious awkwardness transpired.

Not only did the wrong person get it, the celebrities involved happened to be Chris Brown and Rihanna, with Drake thrown in no less.

Brown owned the BET Awards, taking home four big honors, one of which being the viewer's choice award. But it wasn't given to him initially ...

The lucky fan read the winner as "Chris Brown," only to recant it and say, "I'm sorry, the winner is Rihanna." The audience grumbled.

THEN, despite the fact that Rihanna's name appeared on screen one of the presenters chimed in again to award the honor to ... Drake.

Drake then appeared on stage to collect his trophy, giving a short speech and describing the whole thing as awkward. To say the least.

Presumably, at some point later, Brown was credited with the actual award ... but not before the entire process was thoroughly discredited.

Yesterday afternoon, MTV Canada ran a story about a Tweet from Rihanna, referencing her infamous beating at the hands of Chris Brown and allegedly saying, "'I admit it. I provoked Chris to hit me. It not entirely his fault. #imSORRY?'"

Just one problem. She didn't write it.

The story was based on an image reportedly screen-capped from RiRi's Twitter page. It looks to be fake, however, as there's no evidence this ever actually appeared on her page. As such, she's slamming the network for quoting it.

RiRi Tweet

This is all the alleged "story" is based on. It might be tough to hack Rihanna's Twitter, but it'd be ridiculously easy to fake this low-res image.

In any case, Rihanna Tweeted this response:

"@mtvnewscanada - are u f--king kiddin me?????? You're supposed to be a RELIABLE source for news on music and this is the bulls--t u post??"

Their response: "#Rihanna fans. We were reporting on a story that was posted on several sites today. We had no intention to be salacious."

Regardless of what terms she and Chris are on, there's no way she would write that. In other news, did you hear about Rihanna and Drake?

Rihanna and Drake were romantically linked a few years ago in the wake of the Chris Brown scandal. Now reports suggest the steamy "What's My Name" duet partners are hooking up again, following a sexy trip to Montreal!

According to a nightclub source, "They came in at about 1 a.m. after her concert, and she got visibly drunk ... .they were dancing and grinding on each other." HOT! After that, the two headed off to the Mondrian Hotel ... together!

What transpired there? No clue. Maybe something along these lines ...

What do you think? Would these two make a good item? They certainly seem to have chemistry, based on the video, and as THG reported back in the day, they've been caught kissing before, so there's gotta be something there.

He's not even married to Nicki Minaj after all. So what's stopping them?!

Rihanna and Microsoft might want to keep this kid on retainer.

An area youngster playing Dance Central at the Microsoft store in Bellevue, Wa., busted out such amazing dance moves, passersby stopped in their tracks.

He basically matches Rihanna note for note and motion for motion on "Disturbia." It makes you wonder if he's actually an employee trained just for this.

A few minor child labor law violations in the name of a viral video classic? Well worth it. Did we mention this is on the Hard setting? Kid's got skillz ...

Barbados' native daughter has been declared a tourism ambassador for the island nation. Rihanna definitely brings star power to the position!

RiRi's Caribbean heritage was a major part of her early appeal in the "Pon de Replay" days, and remains a big part of who she is as a person.

Now the star is getting back in touch with her roots, inking a deal with the Barbados Tourism Authority to promote her beautiful homeland.

"Barbados is a place like no other and one of the reasons for this is the spirit and national pride of our people," Rihanna said in a statement.

"I want every visitor to experience what makes this destination different from all others and that is the spirit and warmth of my fellow Barbadians."

The Barbados Tourism Authority said via Facebook: "We are proud to announce that musical sensation and social phenomenon Rihanna has partnered with the Barbados Tourism Authority as an exclusive promotional partner for three years.

"Celebrate this amazing announcement today by joining us on August 5th as she brings her Loud tour to Bridgetown, Barbados, her homeland."

You read the headline right. Gabrielle Union tried to shoot a man who raped her. Understandably, Rihanna's "Man Down" video hit close to home for her.

We've debated whether or not Rihanna is a bad role model based on the violent storyline of the video. For Union, the work was simply true to life.

Asked by a fan about the controversial video, the actress opened up about her own abusive past, and the stunning parallels with "Man Down."

The topic came up last week, when Union was soliciting ideas from her followers on how to better combat violence against women and kids.

When a fan asked what she thought of the Rihanna video, she said she hadn't seen it, but would comment when she had. Later, Union wrote:

"Saw 'Man Down' by @rihanna. Every victim/survivor of rape is unique, including how they THINK they'd like justice 2 be handed out."

"During my rape I tried 2 shoot my rapist, bt I missed. Over the yrs I realized tht killin my rapist would've added insult 2 injury."

"The DESIRE 2 kill someone whose abused/raped u is understandable, bt unless its self defense n the moment 2 save ur life."

"Just ADDS 2 ur troubles #mandown."
