Someday, the following list will not be necessary.

Someday, celebrities will not need to make any sort of official announcement regarding their sexuality because, quite simply, no one will care and society will be fully accepting of all orientations.

But that day hasn't arrived yet, for reasons explained so eloquently by Ellen Page when she came out as a lesbian on Friday:

Perhaps these stars can make a difference. Maybe they can positively influence others struggling with their sexual identity, using their public platform to push for tolerance.

So, with all that in mind, we join many in Hollywood in saluting Page and other famous folks who are very out and awfully proud:

At Saturday night's GLAAD Media Awards, Ricky Martin walked on stage and accepted the Vito Russo Award, which honors openly gay and lesbian entertainers.

The honor arrived one year after the singer admitted to the world that he's gay.

"I've been through an intense spiritual process for the last five years, especially the last two years," he told reporters at the event. "I needed to share it with the world."

Adding that "I've only started" in his mission to spread GLADD's message of love and acceptance, he added:

"Let's share the love! Let's go to Mexico! Let's go to Columbia! Let's go to Argentina! Let's go to Chile! Let's go to Brazil! We need you GLAAD – we need you down there. I can help, I can do it! I'll be part of it. I want to be part of it."

While no dates have been announced yet, the Grammy-winner is prepared to do just this via an upcoming tour.

It wasn't exactly a startling revelation, but Ricky Martin told the world he was gay in March of this year. What promoted this announcement?

"I couldn't take it anymore. It was too painful," he told Oprah Winfrey this week, adding that his children, Valentino and Matteo, played a key role in the decision. "Before I decided to become a father, I already accepted who I was. I was happy with who I was. When I held my children, I said, OK, it was time to tell the world."

How did Martin feel after his famous blog post went live?

"I felt relieved. I felt free, I felt liberated, I could finally say I loved myself completely. For many years, I was trying to pretend I was somebody [else]."

If you're a legal immigrant in Arizona, walking down the street with your child, you may now get stopped by the police solely based on the color of your skin.

While it seems incomprehensible that such a law could be passed in the United States, it's a sad fact. It's also one that Shakira spoke out against yesterday and then actually headed down to Phoenix to discuss in person with the mayor and other locals.

Turns out, she isn't the only celebrity (or American with a conscience) to object to this law. At last night's Billboard Latin Music Awards, Ricky Martin said the ruling "makes no sense" and then went off on inequality in general:

"You are not alone. We are with you. Put a stop to discrimination. Put a stop to hate. Put a stop to racism... Long live love, long live peace."

The singer himself came out of the (obvious) closet last month.

A few others on hand also chimed in on the issue.

Said Latin Artist of the Year winner, Larry Hernandez: "It's regrettable that they are discriminating against for the simple fact of looking Latino. It's not fair. We have to say no to that law."

Meanwhile, at a Phoenix press conference, Arizona native Linda Ronstadt stated: "Mexican-Americans are not going to take this lying down."

It's a contentious issue, one many Americans don't understand. Sound off with your thoughts now!

Ricky Martin, who has dodged questions of his sexuality for years now, officially revealed that he is a gay man in a statement on his website earlier today.

The Puerto Rican singer,, who is planning to write a memoir about his life, says the birth of his twin sons (via surrogate) led to his decision to come out.

Ricky's kids were born in August 2008, and similar to Clay Aiken, he says he did not want to live a lie while raising a child ... in Ricky's case two of them.

His coming out statement is well-written and at times poignant. You have to respect the honesty and emotion behind it, along with Martin's reasoning ...

"A few months ago I decided to write my memoirs, a project I knew was going to bring me closer to an amazing turning point in my life.

From the moment I wrote the first phrase I was sure the book was the tool that was going to help me free myself from things I was carrying within me for a long time. Things that were too heavy for me to keep inside.

Writing this account of my life, I got very close to my truth.

And this is something worth celebrating.

Born via surrogate in early August, Ricky Martin's four-month-old twin boys make their debut in this week's issue of People. Here are some quotes from the Puerto Rican hunk about the birth of his adorable sons and fatherhood in general:

Q: Describe this time in your life.

Ricky Martin:  I'm so happy! Everything they do, from smiling to crying, is a blessing. Being a father feels amazing. This has been the most spiritual moment in my life.

Ricky Martin and Twins!

Q: How hands-on are you as a father?

Ricky Martin: I don't have a nanny. I'm doing this on my own because I don't want to miss a moment. I have a personal assistant who helps me, someone who takes care of me while I'm taking care of them, but I'm the one who changes the diapers, the one that feeds them, the one that bathes them, the one that puts them to sleep. For any parent, the first couple of months tend to get a little bit intense.

Or depending on how you look at it, vice versa.

One would think, since the celebrity gossip magazines have been dropping massive amounts of cash for pictures of infants that all look identical, that Ricky Martin could expect a nice payday after welcoming his new twin sons.

Not the case.

According to the New York Daily News, the magazines all want the back story on the twins - namely why Ricky Martin used a surrogate mother - and the Latin heart throb is apparently unwilling to open up about that or other details.

It's not too surprising, as Martin has always been notoriously private when it comes to his personal line. We don't expect to see a photo shoot of Parker Foster Aiken, Jaymes Foster and Clay Aiken in OK! next month either.

Latin singing sensation Ricky Martin welcomed twin boys a few weeks ago via a surrogate mother, his PR peeps revealed this afternoon.

The 36-year-old Martin will take a year off from performing to be a full-time dad and raise the twins. Congrats to Ricky and his two little sons!

Proud Puerto Rican papa Ricky Martin is not the only popular singer to welcome a child through somewhat unconventional means this month.

On August 8, American Idol alum Clay Aiken, 29, and music producer friend Jaymes Foster, 50 welcomed a baby boy via artificial insemination.

Both have frequently been asked about their sexual orientation but are not on the record one way or the other, choosing to maintain privacy.
