Phillip Phillips Loves Girlfriend, Embraces Talent

We're sorry to say it, ladies, but: Phillip Phillips has a girlfriend. And he's head over heels for the unnamed brunette.

"She is so excited for me," the 21-year old told reporters in a conference call yesterday. "She supported me throughout all of this, and I love her to death."

Phillip added that his gal pal has helped him immensely through his kidney ailment - it came out this week that Phillips underwent EIGHT surgeries during season 11 and is due for one in the near future - and if female voters out there have a problem with his heart being taken, well...

... too bad!

"If a girl [voted] for me because I'm cute, and then gets mad that I have a girlfriend, then she doesn't really like the music," he said. "I'm not some cute guy who is trying to be successful off that. I really want the music to come first."

So, why did YOU vote Phillip Phillips for American Idol winner?

He's so cute!
He can really sing!

Phillip Phillips Reacts to American Idol Victory

He is the champion, our friends.

It took months of performing and over 132 million votes, but Phillip Phillips was finally crowned the American Idol winner last night. And while the outcome may have been clear to many fans for a long time now, try telling that to the 11th title-holder in show history.

American Idol Champion

"I don't really feel anything," Phillip told reporters after the show. "Its crazy I'm still a little numb from the whole situation, it's just so unreal. Did I think I was gonna win? Heck no. It's so unreal. It hasn't sunk in yet.

"It's such a blessing to have, I'm kinda ready to try and comprehend it all. After I won, I wasn't thinking about anything. I wasn't thinking about the song, I wasn't wanting to sing or anything. I just started thinking about the journey and how far all of us have come and how far we made it, it's so overwhelming. Jessica has a huge future ahead of her and we're both supportive of each other. I love playing music and I'm just a lucky guy."

American Idol Results: Who Won?

Following a record 132 million votes, performances from Neil Diamond, Rihanna and Aerosmith and a proposal, American Idol crowned a season 11 champion tonight.

Was it ballad singer extraordinaire Jessica Sanchez? Or Dave Matthews prototype Phillip Phillips? Unlike Ryan Seacrest, we won't keep you in suspense for very long. The winner is...

PHILLIP PHILLIPS!

Not exactly a shocker, huh? The guitar-playing crooner was considered a favorite from his very first audition, considering his similar qualities to every other American Idol champion of the past five seasons.

Jessica appeared genuinely happy for Phillip upon hearing the announcement, as Ryan handed Phillip his guitar, Phillips took the crowd "Home" and eventually dissolved into tears, heading into the crowd to hug his parents.

Phillip Phillips vs. Jessica Sanchez: Who Will Win?

We're down to two on American Idol. The final two. Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez.

One is a young white male who is easy on the eyes and plays the guitar. In other words: the same exact pedigree as the last four winners.

The other has a beautiful voice and hasn't been afraid all year long of tacking such major artists as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. She's responsible for the single most memorable American Idol performance of the season.

Either would be a worthy champion. Only one will wear the crown next Thursday night.

Phillip Phillips: Urged to Seek Medical Help

Might the success of Phillip Phillips on American Idol be jeopardizing his health? Without a doubt, YES, according to the singer's doctors.

TMZ reports that the finalist's physicians are adamant: Phillips needs surgery to repair a kidney issue as soon as possible. His family doctor even spent the entire day last Saturday - during Phillip's Idol-sponsored trip home to Georgia - by the contestant's side.

But Phillips would be sidelines for six weeks if he underwent the recommended procedure, so he is choosing to soldier on through at least next Thursday's American Idol finale.

In the meantime, Phillip is simply taking medication, but that's also resulting in dry mouth and possibly impacting his singing. Either way, though, win or lose, the talented young man's journey will come to an end in one week.

American Idol Results: Who Made the Finals?

I love you guys so much because you have the courage to have a dream.

That's what Steven Tyler told the remaining three American Idol contestants tonight. Alas, for one of Phillip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet, the dream is now over. So... following a painful Ice Age 3 tie-in and a performance by Adam Lambert, who got voted out of season 11?

Idol Final 3

JOSHUA LEDET!

The talented crooner takes it very well and even brings his mom on stage as he sings farewell via "Man's Man's Man's World."

This leaves Jessica Sanchez, likely the best voice of the season, and Phillip Phillips, the obligatory cute-white-guy-with-a-guitar-who-wins-every-season, to square off on next week's finale.

Do you think Ledet deserved to be voted off?

Yes, but what a run!
No, it should have been Phillip!
