She's off the small screen, but might Oprah Winfrey play a role in big screen affairs next year?

Motion Picture Academy sources tell The Chicago Sun-Times that the former talk show host is in contention to host the 2012 Academy Awards. The event will be broadcast on ABC, which has a close relationship with Oprah, and a deal could even be finagled that would give OWN exclusive rights to some kind of post-Oscars telecast.

Such a deal would be a boon to the struggling network and might be the only reason Oprah would consider the gig.

Oprah and Fans

No matter what direction the Oscars choose, it's a lock the next host will be more entertaining than the last two.

Do you think Oprah should host the show?

This is my love letter to you. I want to leave you with lessons from my life.

So said Oprah Winfrey at the outset of her final show, which has already taped and already aired in many markets across the country.

A couple days after every star on the planet wished the talk show goddess farewell - and singers such as Beyonce and Jackie Evancho sang her into semi-retirement - Oprah took the stage alone for her last episode, using the platform to speak directly about her experiences over 25 years on the air.

Opening the show with a Paul Simon song, Oprah kicked the emotional hour off with a clip from her first job in Chicago. She then went on to thank that city for embracing her and said she never once missed a taping because "this is what I was called to do."

Fighting off tears at various points, Winfrey sent out the following message to all viewers:

Oprah Winfrey concludes 25 years of her talk show tomorrow.

But a slew of huge names gathered in Chicago last week to tape a farewell to this television goddess. For a special that aired yesterday afternoon, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Madonna, Halle Berry and Will Smith, among others, saluted Oprah inside the United Center.

The event also featured a couple touching musical performances: from Beyonce - who sang "Run the World (Girls)" and told Oprah "your persuasion can build a nation" - to Jackie Evancho, the 10-year old sensation from last summer's America's Got Talent.

Watch both below, and try not to get too choked up over the end of Oprah...

Amid the shocking revelation that her husband cheated on her with - and impregnated - Mildred Patricia Baena, Maria Shriver made a surprise appearance Tuesday at the taping of the penultimate episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Her visit came less than 24 hours after Arnold Schwarzenegger publicly admitted he had fathered a child with the couple's former household staff member, and just a week after Shriver and Schwarzenegger announced their separation.

The Big O, Goodbye

After appearances by Will Smith, Jerry Seinfeld, and Stevie Wonder, Shriver stepped on stage with Gayle King, Oprah’s best friend, at Chicago’s United Center.

The audience of 20,000 gave both women a standing ovation.

Shriver told the retiring talk show host, ”You’ve given me love, wisdom, and the truth,” then introduced Tyler Perry for the next segment of the show.

Interestingly, Shriver may have been with Oprah, King and Stedman Graham when the news of Schwarzenegger's love child first went public earlier.

Oprah Winfrey ends its 25-year run on May 25. What will the talk show queen do once she's done interviewing famous celebrities and sharing inspiring stories with her viewers?

The mega star made it clear in a recent interview with The Chicago Tribune: it will soon be off to Broadway.

Oprah at the Mic

"I have a stack of plays in my bag right now that I am reading," she said. "And just this past weekend, I was in New York meeting with producers. We were just talking about what would be the best route to take. But yes, this is really going to happen."

Adds Winfrey, who recently produced The Color Purple and was openly critical last week of OWN: "[After The Oprah Show wraps] it's time to do something for fun. This next phase of my life should be pure delight."

Oprah says she's looking for an "ensemble" production.

Chaz Bono is opening up about his difficult journey of physically transitioning from a woman to a man in both a new memoir and a series of interviews.

In his book, appropriately titled Transition, and a documentary, Becoming Chaz, he talks about his sexual appetite from hormone injections, for one.

The former Chastity Bono is remarkably forthright on this subject.

Chaz admits he doesn't remember much from childhood, saying "I was just thinking about 'The Sonny and Cher Show' ... not thinking about reality."

The daughter turned son of Sonny and Cher writes about the decision to undergo gender reassignment and the physical and mental pain it entailed.

Here's a clip from his sit-down with Oprah Winfrey yesterday ...

President Obama sat down for a talk with Oprah Winfrey yesterday (it will air on her show Monday) and discussed the controversy over his birthplace.

Focused on Obama's birth certificate, or lack thereof (he released it this week), the “birther” movement questioned his citizenship and eligibility for office.

Contemplative Michelle

Typical of our Commander-in-Chief, he laughed it off.

Obama looked relaxed as he said of the birth certificate controversy: “Can I just say I was there, so I knew. I knew I had been born. I remember it.”

Barack can joke about "birthers" ... at least a little.

First Lady Michelle Obama, sitting by her husband’s side, raised her hands and said: “He was born here!” But clearly they only find it funny to a point.

President Obama went on to lambast the critics of his birthplace as “carnival barkers going around trying to get attention instead of solving problems”.
